A better credit score!

Recently I have been going over my credit score and speaking with a friend in the business who gave me a great tip. My score is ok but not as high as I would like it to be. He mentioned that if I raise the credit limit on my credit card and do not use the raised amount that this would improve my score "Fast" and by several points. I raised my $2000 limit credit card to $5000 and my score did jump up with in a few weeks. Keep in mind that I am mentally telling myself that I still only have a credit line of $2G If I was to use the extra line amount my score would fall again. Simple really doing this decreases your debt to credit ratio. I was also advised that a third of my score is based on my debt-to-credit ratio, so by doing this my credit looks less risky to banks if it represents half of $5000 credit line rather than most of the $2000. Give it a try and see the difference.

Christina, thanks for sharing this tip.  All my credit cards were automatically increased by the holders and I have low balances.  I had no idea that is why my credit score jumped drastically in the last few months. At the rate this is happening, soon I will have a perfect score......ha.....  Now I must make sure I don't use the cards because it is tempting sometimes.  I think of the unused amounts as a potential savings account to use only in the cause of an extreme emergency.

And....Christina, you live near my in-laws.  They live in McMinneville, TN, where my husband Clay Perry was born.

Yep - great tip. It is so funny how we can manipulate the FICO now days. My youngest son was a little bummed about his - it was over 700 and he is only 23, not bad. I told him to do this with his credit card and within a month he was at 770 :)

Good advice on how to raise your credit score.  You may also want to take out another credit card with a different lender asking for the highest credit limit possible.
