Looking for terrific software to make some of your not so good photos look much, much better?  Here's your chance.  Russel Ray and his number one sidekick, Eric, are providing you with a chance to win one.

There's also a link so you can download a 30-day trial of Corel PaintShop Pro X4.  Sounds like a helpful tool to make sure that 2012 turns out to be a better year.

Win a copy of Corel PaintShop Pro X4!

Corel PaintShop Pro X4The boss (Russel Ray) and I have decided that for the new year of 2012 we are committed to four programs that we have been using:

  1. Adobe Lightroom 3.6
  2. Corel PaintShop Pro X4
  3. Corel Photo-Paint X5
  4. CorelDRAW X5

Out of those four programs, we believe that Corel PaintShop Pro X4 is the most complete when it comes to post-processing digital photographs. We equally believe that PaintShop Pro X4 is the equivalent of Adobe Photoshop CS5 but at a fraction of the cost. PaintShop Pro X4 is just $79.99 while Photoshop CS5 is a whopping $699.00.

There were a few functions that I thought Photoshop CS5 had that PaintShop Pro X4 didn't, but I've found that that is not the case. In fact, my favorite function, removing utility wires, telephone poles, etc., is, I think, easier in PaintShop Pro. My second favorite function, making transparent backgrounds I also think is easier in PaintShop Pro X4.

So......................

Russel Ray Photos has decided to run a contest for January 2010 with the winner receiving a fully functional copy of Corel PaintShop Pro X4.

Here are the rules:

  • We want your best worst picture, in other words, your best pictures that have something wrong with them:
    › a portrait of your family on Christmas Day but Little Johnny stuck out his
       tongue at just the wrong moment;
    › Little Miss Sunshine's face is overexposed due to the sunshine;
    › your beautiful house has those dastardly utility wires streaking right
       through the middle of the picture;
    › the best picture of Grandma ever, except that again she is wearing that
       dress that you absolutely detest; etc.
  • You may enter a maximum of four times but only one entry per week. That means that by the end of Sunday ActiveRain time you have to post an entry. If you don't, you can't make it up. Today doesn't count. So post entry #1 by January 8, entry #2 by January 15, entry #3 by January 22, and entry #4 by January 29.
  • Include in your title "Russel Ray Photos January contest."
  • Include in your tags "Russel Ray Photos January contest."
  • Join the How I Did It group and post your entry to that group.
  • Post a link to your entries in the comment section here.
  • All entries become the sole property of Russel Ray Photos. Only kidding. Just wanted to see if you're paying attention. However, Russel Ray Photos does reserve the right to Photoshop PaintShop the photos and post the altered photo for all to see.

Look for a great example in my next post.

Zoey the Cool CatThe winner will be chosen by me in conjunction with the bosses, Russel Ray and Jim Frimmer.  In the event that we three judges cannot come to a decision, the two ladies of the houses will make a decision: Gayle, my girlfriend, and Zoey the Cool Cat.

I will announce winner in my blog on February 1, 2012, possibly along with another contest.

There are no bonus ActiveRain points involved, just a fine software program.

If you want to practice PaintShop Pro X4 in anticipation of winning, Corel has a fully functional, free, 30-day trial version that you can download right here

Hmm...this should be interesting!  Everyone seems to love Photoshop but, I remember the old Corel WAS the preferred software.  I'm anxious to see what they do with the entries.  Thanks for sharing, Kate!  Happy New Year!
