Celebrate the Day- It’s National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day- January 3!

I know... we’re only 3 days into the New Year and I’m alreadycherries tempting everyone with Chocolate and Cherries!  But it really is National Chocolate Covered Cherries Day!

So you won’t feel so guilty look at it this way....you’re combining a fruit...high in antioxidants, melatonin, good for arthritis, heart and brain health... with dark chocolate (my preference) which has proven health benefits for your heart and head.

chocolateI remember the boxes of Chocolate Covered Cherries when I was a kid.  They always looked so interesting until you bit into one, which by the way you should never do unless you want a sweet syrupy goo dripping all over your chin and the rest of you.

There are recipes using fresh cherries or you can use the maraschino cherries you get in a jar.

And  for those of you who might be interested, take a look at this YouTube video... it’s really fascinating.

How fun that there's a National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day! (Although I must say that after all the rich holiday foods, I'd enjoy National Green Vegetable Day more)

My new favorite 'treat' is (are) chocolate covered pomegranites.  I'm not a huge chocolate fan, but all I can say is, "yum!". It's very dangerous for me to start on these.  Cherries are good, too.

Hi Kathy, I am a huge chocolate covered cherry fan! Did n't know we had our own special day to celebrate. You hardly ever see a child eating these delightful treats. They don't know what they are missing. Will have to try to make my own. Thanks for the heads up.

How did I not know about National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day? How could I have missed this??! ... especially since I'm pretty sure chocolate should have been a major food group on the pyramid, and somebody messed up by not including it.  Thanks for bringing it to my attention ... must go celebrate and MARK my calendar so I don't lose track of this day!  PS... Crossing my fingers there is also a Little Debbie Cakes Chocolate Covered Swiss Roll Day, too -- that may show up later in the year!

Lisa- same here. I'd have no idea where to start except for this video.

Dorie- do you remember the boxes you'd get in the drugstore... I think they were white but we'd get them on occasion.  I'm not sure we even had Godiva when I was growing up.

Lottie- I feel the same way.  I don't want to see another cookie for at least 3 months!

Valerie- HM-m-m- I always have dark chocolate in the house, and I think I have some dried cherries.  great idea.

Robert- ok, I've never had choco covered pomegranates but they are supposed to be good for you.

Jeanne and Ralph- if  I were to eat the whole box, there would be no way I could function.

Michelle- give a child one and then get the video camera out.

Brenda- you can even go to Godiva and just buy 1 if you want.  Or 2 or 3.

Cindy- unless someone drops a chocolate covered cherry in my lap, I'm not going to go out and look for one.  I'm still stuffed from the holidays.

BarbaraT- first of all who has that stuff at home.  I'd have to go to Michaal's and spend some bucks on molds, etc.

Joanna- Google!  it has everything you'd want.  Actually there are a number of sites that have  fun calendars.

Judith... I may have to Google to see if there's one.  Maybe a Hostess Twinkie day.

One of my favorites from my childhood!  I remember my grandmother loved them too.  I had no idea they were so much work to make them...I'll just buy some!

We'll celebrate anything, won't we???  I almost bought a box of chocolate covered cherries recently.  I was able to avoid the temptation, but now I feel like I'm missing out on something special.  How can I properly celebrate without eating them?

Sharon- same here but did you see what Valerie does?  She melts choco and pours it over dried cherries.

Craig- no, I think it's because of Richard's birthday.  The chocolate covered cherry is the party favor for his birthday.

Donna- I couldnt' let a whole box in my house.  My husband would go through them in short orderl

Hi Kathy--my mouth is watering after watching the video.  Chocolate-covered cherries were my Dad's favorites and that brings back some really great memories.  Never realized how much work was involved in making them, though.
