Columbus wants to change it's name? According to a Dayton blog, the capital of Ohio, the biggest and best Columbus in the US wants to change it's name because of confusion with the other lesser cities in the US named Columbus. No offense meant to the other cities named Columbus.
In Columbus wants to be ... on my other blog a Dayton Ohio blog is quoted:
"And they hate the fact that whenever mentioned on the national stage, they are always called Columbus, Ohio as opposed to just Columbus (and some have suggested they change their name.)"
I read once that AP or UPI it was a standard, they had to say Columbus Ohio when referring to Columbus Ohio in print.
I get lots of searches on my blogs for the other US cities named Columbus... I won't mention any state names here. Of course posting a list of other cities with the moniker for Columbus Day 2006 was not the brightest thing I ever did.
What's the lesson for Columbus Ohio from Zillow and Trulia, in the web 2.0 world of search? A nonsense name.
Columbus Ohio could change it's name to Zolumbus, then when someone searched they'd find Zolumbus weather, Zolumbus news, Zolumbus restaurants, Zolumbus real estate for Zolumbus Ohio but they'd never have to type in Ohio or even OH.
Or do you think Trolumbus sounds better?
Do you know what Zillow is? Web 2.0 Home Value
Trulia? Web 2.0 Home Search
For branding and for "search" the former Columbus Ohio could be like Prince. The artist formerly known as Prince is Prince again isn't he? Zolumbus, the city formerly named after the 15th century explorer who discovered America or didn't..
Or we could just say "Columbus Ohio," it works.
