Last night as I posted my thoughts I realized I was about to reach that point level only achieved by a small group of members.  At the beginning of the year when I accidentally ran into ActiveRain the ten thousand point barrier seemed like a daunting task...... Ten months later this post pushes into six figures.

My mind began to wonder... How many member reach 100k?   After a little research I found that I would be a somewhat historic member of the group...  Member number #100 to reach 100,000 points.  As a dozed off I was clueless as far as what to post for this big one.

Woke up this morning with the idea of selecting 2 songs I like that were released during the last 50 years.  Anyone that follows my blog is most likely aware my musical taste is well rooted in the Classic Rock of the 60's and 70's.  When Disco came along I was one to say Disco Sucks.  While the years continued on into Grudge and all that Rap Crap my ear happily stayed behind.

Selecting songs from each year turned out to be a little difficult.  Over time we all hear the classics from decades past and selecting songs was fairly easy.  Seem my brick wall was 1988.  Don't think I was alone in the realization that late 80's music was pretty bad.  Many of the artists I enjoy must have also noticed because they went back to work in the early 90's.

In the mid nineties I decided I had aged enough and stayed with my musical collection of the day. I'll leave space for the younger crowed to enlighten me.  Was there any decent music for Classic Rockers to enjoy during the last dozen years?   Feel free to link in the comment section and include the year it hit the charts...

Dan, My family is a big classic rock fan as well. There are a few new rock bands that are inspired by classic rockers and they are pretty good too. Their names are not coming to me right now. Congratulations on your achievement, I am not that far behind you.

1998 - The Sweetest Thing - U2

Yes, it was released in the 80's, but didn't make it on the charts until 1998. i LOVE this song!!

Congratulations my friend on 100,000 points! (If it hadn't been for a certain someone who lost all his points at 90k, you would have been 101)

Dan~ Like you I have so many favorites from the 70s and 80s, I am sure it is because when I was young I had much more time to absorb music and music is wrapped up in most of what we do when at a younger age. There are still many songs and bands I enjoy that are producing music now, part of having kids is they keep you in the loop.  One band that I consistantly love is The Killers.  Here are two you might sample  Read My Mind   and another favorite Mr Brightside.......Ok one more, cause they are just all too good All These Things That I Have Done  and I will force myself to stop now.

Monika.... Thanks,  it snuck up on me last night....

Mana... That's my problems also,  don't know the names of the newer groups.

Suzanne... Sounds like a plan.... Get on your disco dress and lets dance.

Jennifer... I'm sure many people would have been there before me if they stuck with it.

Beth... I'll have to check out the Killers... Don't recall hearing any of their music.

Marc... Thought I did have Gun n Roses but could have bumped them if I saw something else.  This list was quickly tossed together this morning so I just searched the Internet for top song of the year and found a site that listed the top 10 and selected the two I liked best.  Thinking back I should have just picked 20 years... Say 1960-1980 and used 5 from each year.  There are so many more I didn't include.....

WOW-  I had no idea you were near 100k-  congrats!  I'm surprised at how many songs we both like...  for some reason when I've heard you talk about music, it didn't occur to me that it was stuff I would like!

Philip... Was a shocker to see I could come in right at #100 last nights so I was up late thinking and back at the computer at 4:00 am with the song list idea.

Sandra... I'll put all these on my to-do list and fill in the spaces when I have time..

Sandi... Gee... thanks!!!   So I'm more the Lawrence Welk type in your eyes?   Although I'm wise beyond my years we are not all that far apart.... We're both middle aged, just closer to the ends... LOL

Jason...  Thanks... When out running after posting this and was thinking of all the songs I missed.

Ryan... My oldest son nearly your age so I know what kind of crap came out in your day.  I'm sure there is some decent music but I just don't know the name.....  Kurt Cobain did some nice work.

Suzanne... Figured you'd be supplying the disco mix...This is about as close as I got to Disco.

George... It took some time.... Woke up about 4:00 am with the idea based on the posting time I'd say it was a solid six hours reviewing videos and making selections.

Dan.... funny....  Leave it up to the younger crowd?  I still consider myself the younger crowd, even at 40. In any case...  I'll find some for you, but were you knocking the 80's music?  Bad or not, I loved the music from back then. I also like my classic music, but I can best relate to the early and mid 80's, because of high school and college.

In any case, how fitting, to be the 100th person her on AR to reach 100k in points. CONGRATS.... now onto the next 100,000....  ;o)

Adam.... Thanks.... And good idea with the Inspired by Music group.... I'll be watch of the monthly contests not so much looking to win but fun to play.

Jeff... My 70's music has always been my preference.... Knocking the 80's?  Not really but in putting this list together I was scanning the top charts for varies years and didn't see much I cared for during that time period.  I'm sure there is plenty if I could find and easy site that showed music released by year.

Suzanne... Since I've was a Rod fan from the early days his step into disco caught my eye... And that did hit Number 1 on the Disco Chart for March of '79.   Oops forget to listen to your selection.... Will do it now.

Neal...  With all the people here it's impossible to follow everything.  If we keep up with 50 or so people we're doing good.

Karen... Age is just a silly number... Mine is fresh in my mind since I just had to adjust the time on my Heart Rate Watch that I use for running and while scrolling through the options the age 32was very clear. Yes... I had to shave a few year off my chronological age so the monitor didn't miss classify me...  :-)

Dan, 32?  If I did that, I would definitely have a heart attack! I know you are younger than I, in fact, I would venture to say most of AR is younger than I!! Age doesn't bother me, because I can still outlast my children!  Athough the grandkids are a challenge.

Hi Dan--Congrats on joining the 100000 point club! I agree with most of your musical choices but what is it with guys and Jethro Tull? I just don't get that music and every male I know think they are awesome....Anyway. A few new bands that I really like are The Fray, Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie and Five for Fighting. My kids really like System of a Down and Linkin Park...And Weird Al Yankovik along with REM, Queen, AC/DC and other old stuff. I get weird stuff on my MP3 when they add new music.

Hey Runnin Man Conratulation on the 100,000th mark! That must give you a lot of SATISFACTION  ... I remeber when I fist heard that driving down the Cape....

My favorites on the list:  Stay, Night Moves...Twist and Shout,  Money for Nothing was a good one, but if I were picking a fav Dire Straits it would be Sultans of Swing... Hey no Clapton???

What website di you use for your research?

Ginger... Noticed you were right in front of me when I hit that 100k.... Pick up the pace... LOL

Out I my run after posting the list all kinds of songs were running through my mind that I missed... Clapton, solo or with Cream,  Bad Company and many more....  Problem with scanning the charts as a memory jogger is that much of the best music may not be "billboard" hits.  This Site was helpful since it showed top 10's from the 50's thru the 80's.

Lucky...  Took me a little time to figure out where to find that list but here it is.  Go to HOME, pick one of the Membership Types along the right and that gives you a list based on discipline.  You can then select ALL in the upper left to get a list based on points for all members.
