Websites are here and are the preferred way that consumers are getting real estate information. There are multiple articles, blogs and advertisements each day on real estate sites and ways to do everything from bill-boarding to lead capture and beyond. The balance is to give reliable information and serve the clients in a way to create credibility and common interest. As consumers get comfortable with signing on to site ( not just real estate sites ) buyers and seller are becoming more likely to give limited information. As real estate professionals a constraint on over contact will serve this industry to gain consumer respect. consumers have taken to visiting car lots on Sunday to avoid salespeople calling and calling. This is a reason to present and offer relevant information as well as have opportunity to opt out.

Bonner - Thought-provoking post. Web 2.0 is ushering in a paradigm shift where agent sites are transparent no longer requiring the Internet Empowered Consumer to be held hostage for contact information. I agree with your assessment that more forward-thinking agents are making the paradigm shift and embracing this transparency. Besides, why send a message that you are the gatekeeper of information when you can be the information expert and the portal of choice.

Ultimately the site visitor will access information somewhere else. We recommend real estate professionals NOT send a mix message that says on the outset of cultivating a relationship with a site visitor that you will withhold information until the I.E.C. gives you their name and email address. What signal does that send about being open and honest in your relationships? Solid post for sure!

The days of the one page "e-book" sales letter with the email capture is over. I never heard of IEC until now but I will use it in the future.

Chip - the IEC ultimately decides with whom and where they interact. It is an imperative in today's Web 2.0 environment to say upfront that you will protect their right to privacy and never rent, sell or ahare their personal information. Otherwise they are out of here in a heartbeat.

Bonner, I think all consumers do not want to be "bugged" by salespeople. They want information and want to build relationships with information brokers and people with excellent professionalism and communication skills.
