"MY MILITARY HERO" - 2012 ARMED SERVICES YMCA ESSAY & ART CONTEST
Children of active duty military or retired with 20+ years of service are invited to participate in the 2012 Armed Services YMCA essay contest: "My Military Hero".
The contest runs until the middle of March, entries must be postmarked by March 16th, 2012. Military brats from Elementary to High-School are eligible to participate in the essay contest:
Grades 1 through 8 - 100 words minimum to 300 max
Grades 9 through 12 - 300 words minimum to 500 max
Besides being able to express their love and appreciation for their military hero, children are also entering for a chance to win a U.S. Savings Bond! Several locations throughout the Washington, D.C. area will be displaying the winning entries and their authors will also be recognized at an annual luncheon on Capitol Hill.
Children in grades K through 6 are eligible to enter the art contest: "My Military Family". The winner and 1st runner up will also receive a U.S. Savings bond. The winning entry will be displayed on the 2012 poster for the Military Family Month (November)! Entries for the art contest need to be postmarked February 17th, 2012!

It sounds like my daughter who is a 1st grader is eager to participate this year. Winner or not I bet her essay or art will have me teary-eyed!
