Miami Real Estate is changing everyday and those of us blogging are at the forefront and are viewed as “trendy”.

orange_peel_cropped.jpg

Robert Scoble and Shel Israel shared a breakthrough quote (in their book "Naked Conversations") by The New York Times editorial (August 5, 2005) which really puts blogging into perspective:

“It’s natural enough to think of the growth of the blogosphere as a merely technical phenomenon. But it’s also a profoundly human phenomenon, a way of expanding and, in some sense, reifying the ephemeral daily conversation that humans engage in. Every day the blogosphere captures a little more of the strange immediacy of the life that is passing before us. Think of it as the global thought bubble of a single voluble species”.

Talk about a strong statement!

So here’s my take. Blogging puts our thoughts out there, out there in the open for you to tear apart. A Realtor colleague from Miami Shores told me a couple of days ago that she did not feel comfortable blogging because she felt like she was “stripping in front of everyone”. That was another “breakthrough” comment.

We blog to let people know what’s going on, to explain the inside scoop, to educate and to encourage dialogue.

We want you, the real estate consumer, to know us, to know about the Miami real estate industry inside and out. We also understand that the real estate consumer today is ahead of the game, with tons of tools at their disposure.

Our job is to strip the façade off the real estate industry and let you know what’s going on. We write articles about community events, restaurants, architecture, articles for real estate buyers and sellers, about Miami real estate stories, off the wall and funny things that have nothing to do with real estate, and not to forget miamisms. We understand the need people have to know what's going on, so we will keep on talking.

**NOTE: Although this article was written for our "Miami Real Estate Market" at www.miamism.com, it applies to to all real estate bloggers, no matter the location. Remember that blogging should be local, it should be open and it should peel away all the unnecessary marketing facade to inspire trust**

If blogging is stripping then I guess I'm naked alot. LOL

I could'nt agree more. Buyers are so saavy today, some may know more than some Realtors. The more info out there, the more it helps everyone. Now if I could just manage my time enough  to be ableto read blogs..............

Ines, Your blog really is beautiful. I just love the colors. This orange graphic made me hungry!!! Blogging is certainly changing the way information is disseminated to the consumer. It gives them a peek behind the curtain at what we do, how we do it and who we are. It really is a wonderful and effective media.

Ines....  what a great analogy. And as Missy, well....  we will just leave that for the imagination. And if I was blogging 10 years ago, my nakedness would have been more appealing back then.  lol

Anyhoo....  you did a good job with this one. On another note,  AgentGenius, is that done by Mariana Wagner?  I like the concept and blog site. Damn, just so much out there to read. When does anyone have time to do anything else.

Missy - a lot of us are definitely NAKED!! LOL!

Richard - I would tell you that reading is even more important than writing, at first it's difficult, but I found that by alocating time every evening, it makes it easier.

BB- THANK YOU!!!  And we all know that your curtain is always wide open and that's why the consumer and other Realtors love you so much.  Blog on!

Moni - it DOES look delicious, no?  Your outside blog is rocking!

Jeff - for the record....keep those clothes on! LOL!  There are a bunch of writers at AgentGenius, Mariana is one of them - there is a lot out there....I find more and more stuff every day.

Vickie - you are always so encouraging, thanks!

I got stuck on the "stripping" part. I agree with that. But isn't it an indication that you are confident in your abilities, as well as in who you are, when you're able to "expose" your thoughts & experiences to the world, without concern for what they will think? To me, it shows strength and courage; things that are needed to be a successful REALTOR anyway.

Ines...

That stripping remark is the way I still occasionally feel about Blogging.

Hence the reason I 'never' put 'too' much out there.

I don't mind sharing my thoughts but I ain't doing any stripping :)

At least not anytime in the near future.

Strip the facade off the real estate . . . .

I love that.  We do that for our buyer and seller clients one at a time.  We have a little fun along the way.

Lisa - ABSOLUTELY!!  that's the beauty of blogging and the fact that we are so willing to share our expertise and have nothing to hide.  Strip away baby!

TLW - Oh come on!!  We love when you strip......and like it or not, you do it ALL THE TIME!

Lenn - you got it and IT IS FUN and it doesn't have to feel offensive either!  So now you and I have admitted to our door and window fetishes and the fact that we like stripping.....what's next?  : )

Ines - Love the orange.  Yes blogging is the way to go, I have read so many good experiences from people blogging, and I myself have benefited in many ways.  I make a point of encouraging others to dive right in.

Ines,

I didn't know we were "trendy".  A colleague of mine joined AR a few months ago, then stopped.  She couldn't "put herself" out there in the blogosphere for the whole world to see.

I have found blogging to be a very freeing experience. The clients I have connected with get to know who I am before they even meet me.

Ah...there goes Ines again...just bringing out the truth of the matter....now that is how and what blogging has to be. We're talking about us in relation to our business....without all the glitter and ad lines. Hooray for you!

Ines - I agree, we reveal who we are in our comments.  You get a sense of someone's personality, values, concerns, and sensitivity.  We form impressions of one another that are so real that we feel we know the other person as well as if we had met them in person, maybe even more so.  There is an immediacy to this medium that requires us to reveal something of ourselves.  Not everyone does this, but not everyone dances, some remain on the sidelines.  To be in the center, you must get in the dance.

Ines, I think that the Realtor that felt like she was "striping in front of everyone" by blogging has the wrong idea about what blogging is all about.  I much prefer the way you view it "Our job is to strip the façade off the real estate industry and let you know what’s going on."  Very well said.

Great insighful blog. Indeed, you do want the potential buyer to know you and your area. The quote is great by the way. We offer vignettes of our cities.Perhaps we are mentaly stripping in front of everyone with our blogs. As long as the reader gets a different view of our cities, a less formal or synthetic picture, then we are doing our jobs.As Gail says" not everyone dances". It is complex to stay professional and dance at the same time.

TLW - you might not do it on purpose and we may have a way of janking out of you, but the truth is that you do a great job at it!  : )

Jennifer - I encourage constantly and have not been able to get anyone past their profile here on AR.....doesn't mean I'll stop trying though.

Harold - it's definitely liberating and it feels good when people feel comfortable with you before they even meet you.  I think it's pretty amazing.

Ardell - don't feel bad, I thought I had misread it and also had to look it up..."materialize" is a much better word....and it's a very powerful statement without a doubt.

Sally - I like glitter.....but I like stripping the glitter much more! : )

Gail - I do think it's about involvement to be able to get in the dance.  Those that don't reveal something about themselbes are usually not successful at blogging and don't really get it....possibly remain on the sidelines.  That's why it's important to "get it" and to "strip down the facade"....as not to be regarded as a fake.

George - there is some striping involved.....stripping away of formalities, facades, glitter........it's all about interpretation and if you do not show what you are about, then might as well not blog.

Lloyd - you got it - we represent our cities and give an insider's scoop.  As for remaining professional and dancing.....I think being a professional is something you are.....whether or not you try to.  You can be funny, witty and informal and be very professional.

Simply beautiful!  I have heard the sentiments expressed before but never with such eloquence.  I think blogging mimics life as the more you are willing to strip away the more meaningful your life becomes.

Ines,

It's Odd, because I don't feel like i'm stripping anything. I say what I want, and what I feel. Blogging has just opened a new door for me, communicating with others.

Hey I saw the Miamism Post wit the Link you sent me, is there a way to comment on there? and you didn't link it to a A/R post, did you?

Hey Tom - most "open" people will not feel any different.  Blogging to me has come naturally because I have never felt there's anything to hide in our industry.  I didn't like to the AR post because I didn't want to be rude - and of course you can comment there - if you click "read more" you should get the whole article and option to comment at the bottom or just click on comments under the title.

Okay... I am never moving to Miami and I certainly don't need to "fluff" you.   But I have to say that I truly love everything you post.    Its always so "clean" and visually appealing.   <sigh>

I wanna grow up and be just like you waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Ines -- Delicious is what comes to mind when I see that graphic.  I enjoy talking to people and meeting new people - sharing of ideas is very very good in my book.

Sorry about the last game --that was surprising to me to lose like that to Virginia.

Aziz - I just happened to buy great Mandarin oranges and then felt like adding a graph like that....they are delicious by the way.....and the fact that we can meet new people on-line, professionals.....it doesn't get any better.  (don't talk to me about that last game....and the last one at the Orange Bowl, too)
