Winter on the Green

2012 Season

Sundays, 1-3 pm

Breidert Green in Downtown Historic Frankfort

HOT CHOCOLATE BONFIRE

January 8: Ice Fest

Experience the magic when an ice sculpture unfolds before your eyes during a demonstration by professional ice sculptors. Ride the heated trolley (free of charge) through downtown Frankfort and view ice sculptures on display. The Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue Association will be on hand with their beautiful dogs for your enjoyment. What a "cool" way to spend your Sunday afternoon!

January 15: Winter Carnival

Why wait until summer to enjoy an outdoor carnival? Dance away the cold with Frosty, DJ Don Gray, Rainbow the Clown and your friends at the Winter Carnival! Play carnival games, walk in snow shoes & get that balloon animal made just for you.

January 22: Winter Sports

Challenge yourself and the kids to some winter games! Compete in super all-weather/all-terrain sled races, 3 on 3 hockey, or punt and pass contest. Prizes will make the games fun & more interesting! Leave your I-pods at home and show the kids how to have fun in the cold, and (we hope) snow!

January 29: Chili Cook-Off

Fire up the crock pots, add a little spice, make them sizzle & steam. It’s time to enter our 17

th

The best aroma, bite, color, consistency, originality, flavor and heat is the pot to beat to be the 2012 Chili Champion! Taste tests free…hungry on-lookers sample to select the Crowd Pleaser!

February 5: Superbowl

Come celebrate our pre-game "Superbowl" event featuring "Elvis" (Dave Thomas)! Enjoy FREE hotdogs, grilled on site at our new "tailgating" event. Our half-time "Puppy Bowl" begins at 2:00 PM. Bring out the 4 legged athlete dressed in their favorite team apparel. Trophies will be awarded for "Best Dressed Dog", "All Star Dog" (most athletic), & "Chow Hound". Free gift to each dog in attendance

February 12: Valentine’s Weekend

Bring your Valentine sweetheart to taste a variety of chocolate fondue delicacies! Visit members of Frankfort Boy Scout Troop 270 while they demonstrate a winter campout and sample their hot cobbler made in Dutch ovens!

I live in an upscale community about 35 miles southwest of downtown Chicago.  My favorite amenity is a scenic 26 mile trail connecting numerous subdivisions along the route leading to the historic center of town where events are planned every season.

Living nearby are relatives of Jane Lynch (a high school classmate), Dwayne Wade, and Bernie Mac.
