You might think eating locally in Pennsylvania is not relevant in the winter months? Not so! Cold weather crops plus the use of hoop houses and other methods help to extend the natural growing season. Cold storage vegetables like carrots, beets, turnips, onions, winter squashes, and potatoes also mean that there is plenty of fresh produce to choose from at winter market. Certainly hens continue to lay eggs year-round and the varied assortment of cheeses, meats, and baked goods continue to flow from our vendors. You will be amazed at all you will find.
In addition, a number of crafters and other vendors will offer their special wares this First Friday. The Winter Farmers Market runs from 2 - 5 pm along State Street at the Genesis Alleyway each first and third Friday from 2 - 5 pm. For more information, visit the Kennett Farmers Market website and sign up for the newsletter.
Good to know great job and good luck to you this year keep up the good work
Janice--I wish we lived closer so we could shop at Kennett Square Farmers Market. My parents used to keep a lot of veggies in cold storage through the winter. Thanks for the memories and enjoy the fresh produce and crafts, too.
Mary, I do love the fresh produce. Thinking about making a beet salad for dinner
That sounds good. Dave is making cucumber salad. Veggies in January are a real treat. Enjoy!
We're fortunate in this part of the country to have farmer's markets like the one you mention. I love to go to the Central Market in Lancaster with my wife in the winter. It's great to get the fresh produce, then find a cozy cafe for breakfast.
Hi Janice~
Just the thought of finding wonderful produce at the Farmer's Market in the SNOW...makes me smile. Thanks for the post ..
