Pre-qualification before showing? It pays to know up front

I was just speaking with a potential client who requested a showing in a town that is 40 minutes from my office.

In the conversation, I asked about pre-qualification. He volunteered that his credit was "not so good." He agreed to speak with a loan officer I know before we go to see the house.

Bringing up pre-qualification is a necessary evil to protect your time and budget for gas.

Always a necessity, to save everyone time and disappointment.  I never want a client to fall in love with a property and then find out they can't qualify.

You are preaching to the choir on this topic. Occasionally a prospect will refuse to prequalify, these folks are kindly sent packing.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

It's necessary, but I don't think it's evil.  Not only the buyer agent, but also the buyer, seller, and seller's agent benefit from all lookers being qualified lookers.
