My husband and I were in Vegas a few years back. We were walking from one casino to another and there was a couple just ahead of us. The couple seemed to be big motorcycle fans. They had on the leather garb, long hair, walked with an attitude, smoking a cigarette. Sorry, but they were (stereotypical) bikers.
Ahead of us, walking towards us, was another couple. They seemed very happy and excited to be there. The woman was dressed very nicely and the man was in his full dress Army uniform.
It was interesting to see both of these couples at the same time. Vegas sure is a melting pot of people.
Just then the biker did something I never expected him to do.
Just as the couple passed each other, the biker man stopped and reached out his hand to the Army man and said "Thank you, thank you for everything". They shook hands and walked away.
If you have the opportunity today - Veterans Day - or any day, thank a veteran.
***My Disclaimer***
I know in the above it sounds like I have an opinion against bikers, I really don't. The scene for me was so impactful because of the contrast between the two couples. I am merely trying to help you visualize the scene I saw.
Cari, the same thing happened to me and my son a few years back. It had me in tears. My youngest had just arrived at the airport home for a visit and was in full uniform. People literally were clustered around him to say "thank you". It was a melting pot of strangers: Old, young, male, female, and all ethicities. Nick was teary eyed also.
What a great reminder for all of us.
