My husband and I were in Vegas a few years back. We were walking from one casino to another and there was a couple just ahead of us. The couple seemed to be big motorcycle fans. They had on the leather garb, long hair, walked with an attitude, smoking a cigarette. Sorry, but they were (stereotypical) bikers.

Ahead of us, walking towards us, was another couple. They seemed very happy and excited to be there. The woman was dressed very nicely and the man was in his full dress Army uniform.

It was interesting to see both of these couples at the same time. Vegas sure is a melting pot of people.

Just then the biker did something I never expected him to do.

Just as the couple passed each other, the biker man stopped and reached out his hand to the Army man and said "Thank you, thank you for everything". They shook hands and walked away.

If you have the opportunity today - Veterans Day - or any day, thank a veteran.

***My Disclaimer***

I know in the above it sounds like I have an opinion against bikers, I really don't. The scene for me was so impactful because of the contrast between the two couples. I am merely trying to help you visualize the scene I saw.

Cari, the same thing happened to me and my son a few years back.  It had me in tears.  My youngest had just arrived at the airport home for a visit and was in full uniform.  People literally were clustered around him to say "thank you".  It was a melting pot of strangers:  Old, young, male, female, and all ethicities.  Nick was teary eyed also.

What a great reminder for all of us.

The old adage "never judge a book by it's colors" is probably more appropriate today then ever before.

As America continues to be the largest melting pot society in the world, people with different appearances, beliefs and customs will continue to search for the 'American Dream' in our homeland.

The American military has always outdone themselves in time of need and we as Americans should support them in every way possible.

While we may or may not agree with the politics that sent our military into hostile territory, supporting them once they are there and thanking them should be on every American's mind daily.

Panama City Florida has two of the largest Air Force and Navy training installations in the country.  There isn't a day that goes by that our military isn't on our minds with...

"Thanks for being there!"

Good job. Yes, we sometimes forget to say it but we need to remember to thank a Vet and their families for the families served as well!

I will be on the look-out to say thanks ! I love hearing stories like this, my brother is in the Army so it really hits home for me, I lost my cousin in desert storm, but he died loving what he did....I will say thanks after all our soldiers have given us the freedom to be able to do that.

I always appreciate what veterans have done for us, and will continue to do.

In our area bikers seem to be a mature and very civic minded bunch, so the actions you witnessed come as no surprise to me.

Thanks for the reminder Cari - I'm married to a biker who is also a veteran (Canadian Air Force). We meet a lot of bikers who have proudly served their country. My thanks to all those who have and are serving - especially today. In case you didn't know, in the UK and Canada we wear poppies today as a sign of rememberance - I beleive it has something to do with the poppies growing on the battle fields in Flanders during WWI.

Great reminder that we should be thankful to our military and veterans!  They are out there fighting for us and our country!
