I sat with church friends around the table listening to these friends telling pieces of their life story. One friend knew he was losing his job effective March 31. He also recently experienced Telling a Story - Quilt Tapestrythe unexpected death of his father. Time was given to ask him questions, allowing him to share his grief and remember past events of his life. It was also a time to share brief glimpses of his possible future.

As the evening wore on, others shared pieces of their stories. The stuff which shaped each person. Who they had become was revealed bit by bit because of this story telling. It was a remarkable evening.

As I read blogs which reveal who a person is, I am drawn closer to this person. Stories of pain, trauma, triumph, turmoil and victory are like a Pennsylvania Dutch quilt. Each piece becomes a panel in the tapestry of life. In the end the beauty of life is revealed. The strength of character becomes more apparent. A triumphant human spirit so often rises from the ashes of life.

In 2012 I invite you to find ways to tell your story. Weave the threads of your past into story form, revealing the fiber of your being. Discover friends who will listen and grant you a gift. In return listen to others and find meaning and relevance in these relationships which matter.

Gerry, online relationships do have the same type of energy and expectation. It is amazing how it develops.

Steve, when was you wife in Lancaster? The quilts are really cool. The quilt in the picture is one my first congregation gave me when I left the church to pastor another church. Each block tells a piece of our story together. It now hangs in our house and is a wonderful reminder of some great years.

Leslee went in 1990. She chaperoned for an 8th grade school trip to DC.  Your quilt is a perfect example of the "story" that can be told in a quilt. She really enjoyed touring the family businesses in Bird-in-Hand. She thought the trucks following the buggies were quite the sight being from CA.  SC
