Printed Information Is Valuable During A Listing Presentation...Don't Eliminate It

Many real estate agents today are very tech savvy.  Some have entered the real estate profession from technology jobs and have become shining stars when it comes to creating virtual presentation to be used by clients.

Listing presentations are one of the most important functions provided by a real estate agent.  It’s always show time at a listing presentation.  What we’re seeing more of now are virtual presentations.

We are listing agents, and each of my team members use brochures with printed material for their presentations.  Included in the pre-listing brochure are several samples of “screen shots” of our pending listings.  In the Google box is the address of the listed property, and there are at least 7 or 8 titles from my blogging platforms.  We include market reports of home sales in our town; production reports for my team; production reports for our office; and information on the sites where I blog.

Providing printed materials that reflect our Internet marketing is a powerful way for sellers to see the results of my blogging.  The properties that I include are pending sales, and if the homeowner drives by the home, the pending rider is visible along with “Google this address.”

Printed material should not be eliminated from a listing presentation.  There is value to be gained.  Once you leave the home, the homeowner can continually reread the material.  Printed material has a worth that cannot be replaced by the Internet.  Not yet, anyway!!!

I always have a "leave behind" whether I'm doing a listing presentation on a $400,000 place or a $10M place.  Sellers always need and sometimes want something to refer to as a reminder that the meeting took place.

I want to SELL your home, not LIST it!
Sometimes clients need time to reflect on what you said and the implications of the market statistics for their own sale. Leaving the presentation with them can help with this.

Barbara,

Not everything is digital.

I try not to be too techie, because I know that others will beat me at that game hands down.

Same with with printed material.

So, I use selective samples and it seems to work well.

I think all of us still provide prospective sellers with a printed package that includes comps. I can't imagine doing a listing presentation without that package.

Hi Barbara. I only bring printed material when meeting with potential sellers... I need to look into "google this address" riders... Thanks for writing, Ken

I just finished a CRS webinar on iPhone and iPad for your business. While they did stress the importance of a paperless presentation, they did recommend leaving behind a professionally bound presentation for the seller to keep.

Printed material is still one of the best sources after you leave.

Luis....the printed material that you leave could easily be the determining factor as to whether or not you get that listing....

Barbara we are all know that all home owners are not Tech savvy. Besides leaving your listing presentation behind can get you another listing referral if it is a very good one. Thanks for the remainder.

I always leave printed material with the home owner and could not agree more that those items carry incredible value.

Barbara, your post has made me rethink my listing presentation. My listing presentation is currently aaa iPad presentation, but I know see the value in having something to leave with clients to. I will be creating a print brochure that can be left with clients that will compliment my iPad presentation. Thank you for the the inspiration.

Informative post. I would be interested in your thoughts regarding delivering your pre-listing package before your appointment (by courier or FedEx), and in the case of when you might not have received the listing, do you retrieve the package or request to retrieve it?

Barbara -- As nerdy as I am and as into I am with techy presentations, if you don't leave a 'paper' presentation with the seller, you leave nothing for that seller to peruse through and possibly compare to others who are seeking the listing.  The seller will forget all that slick stuff, but having the detail available on paper is a refresher and reminder of just how good that presentation was!  I mix it up a bit....use computer and also use hard copy.  If you rely too heavily on the computer or ipad, no matter how cool it is, viewers tend to tune out and glaze over after a while.

I have a terrible secret....I love books and paper. I try and try and try to become more paperless, but it just doesn't seem to work. Maybe it's my type of seller....a little older and more executive...detail oriented? They expect staff (including their Realtor) to provide a snappy summary but then also expect great documentation to back in up.

Michele....good idea...good luck with it...

Bart....we do a two step listing now.... we give it to the seller when we leave... the second brochure is the actual cma.... we leave that too when we leave....many want to list in the future after they get the home staged....we work with them on that.... when we did a one step, we hand delivered it (all of our listings are local) before the appointment with a cover letter.... they loved it....we never ask for anything to be returned....

Barbara....yes, the computer presentations are alot for them to digest with one viewing.... many will never do it...they need the print.

Leslie.... everyone we deal with expects a print package.....those who do just virtual are missing the boat.
