I'll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours. or How NOT to Stage a Post!

This is a good reminder to all of us that our first post may not be our most memorable post but it was at least a stepping stone along the right path...the path of blogging.  We learn as we go although sometimes time dictates how 'pretty' our post becomes.  After all, we do work for a living and that tends to take us away from the computer and our life in Active Rain.

I’ll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours! How NOT to Stage a Post!

This will be my 811th post but no... this is not a post asking for your Cheers.  I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.....

My First Post

my first post

Bad.. I know.  NO Clip Art....No Pictures.... No Bolded Words.  BORING!

And bless you Cindy Edwards... the only comment on my post.

It was 6 months before I wrote another post.  Time to get back on the bicycle and try again.  My second one wasn’t much better and perhaps I’ll resurrect it someday but it did get 5 comments.

blogSo when you are  writing a post no matter what the content, it’s falling on dead ears, or in this case dead cyber space, unless someone reads it.   Follow these hints so your next post won’t just hang out in Cyberville.

1. Follow the Peanuts principle.... You remember Peanuts... Linus, Snoopy, Lucy.  Part of the reason I read Peanuts was because it was easy to read.  Not too much “stuff”.  And for those short on time.. an easy read.

2.  Add visuals...there’s still the kid in us and we like to see pictures.  A photo or clip-art can catch your reader’s eye.  It can also help you tell your story.

3.  Break it up...The last time I read a wall of words was in grad school.  And it was only because I had to.   Use short 2 or 3 sentence paragraphs.  BOLD Words for emphasis.

See... it’s not much different from Staging a house.   Help keep your post from floating around unread in cyberville!
