I know Apple product users are cult like in their devotion, but I've been a reluctant convert, preferring my almost iPhone, in the form of an android. For the past few days, my old Blackjack (my second cell phone) had been giving me more problems than usual. I had always had an issue of messages that didn't reach me for hours, sometimes days when the battery was low, but the one thing I could always count on was a signal that allowed me to complete calls, whether I or someone else initiated them.
Just a few days ago, I got a call from my office. After saying hello . . . hello . . . hello, and hearing breathing in the background, it was clear something was wrong. Finally, a voice came on, clear as a bell on my end, asking if I was there. I raised my voice, thinking there was something wrong with the connection, ultimately all but screaming. Still she couldn't hear me. When the next day the same thing happened more than once, with different people, I knew I had a problem. A quick trip to the AT &T store to have them look at it and hopefully come up with a simple fix, proved me wrong. I was told it was the microphone and nothing could be done.
Having no inclination to get a new phone, I suddenly found myself looking at options. I should say at this point that my son has been a devotee of the iPhone since its first incarnation, raving about it, always saying there's the iPhone, then there's everything else. So, shadowed by a store employee, I drifted over to the display. Right about that time another group gathered around the second iPhone right next to the one I was holding. One member of the party clearly knew the phone very well. Extolling some of the virtues to them had me learning in tandem. By the time he demonstrated the benefits of Siri, I was pretty much sold.
So here I am, with my new toy and I must say, I think I've begun to sip the Kool Aid. Now if I can only figure out how to download ringtones, I'll be a happy camper.
