This title is a perfect fit because it concerns the ups and downs a Realtor faces in the business. In my case for instance I came upon a couple who at first seemed to be very cooperative and definitely in need of a mobile home. The woman was in her mid forties and the gentleman was looking at his early sixties. The girl's mother passed away and the gentleman who lived with her stayed close to the daughter even though she had a family and he lived alone. They wanted to buy a mobile home and have him join the family since he was putting up the money for the purchase. We had a mobile home listed but it was out of their price range so I began the hunt for what would not only be appropriate, but also affordable. from the outset disagreements between the two emerged and burdened my progress. He found the Buyers Agreement form suspect and rudely refused to sign the document. I nurtured and humored this couple in every way possible with time spent on showings in the worst weather and visits to the office that went nowhere. He had put down a $500.00 deposit that eventually had to be returned.
After working with the patience of a saint, they had the nerve to ask the broker for another agent. I was truly dum-founded. I called them and asked them why they wanted another agent seeing that I had not only done everything I could for them, but even went beyond in extending every courtesy. The only excuse they offered was that they preferred a man. I even humbly apologized for not being able to fulfill their wishes and ended the phone call feeling quite down. My broker came to me and said that she was aware this couple was going to be trouble and she was satisfied with my performance in this case. This helped a little, but in the meantime, I learned a valuable lesson and that is not to take things too seriously in this business. There are some very nice people out there and believe me, I appreciate it when I have the privilege to meet them. I love my work and I will still be there for those who need a reputable agent.
