san childLosing your home is an awful feeling. Regardless if it is through a Short Sale or Foreclosure.  No one plans for this. It happens and not dealing with it causes emotional trauma for the whole family.  It is painful both physically and mentally.

It is not just hard on the parents–the children suffer as well. They are displaced, perhaps having to go to new schools and not knowing why. They feel the stress in the family and probably feel helpless because they can’t help mom and dad and no one is really explaining to them what is happening.

I can relate. My parents lost their business and our home when I was twelve. All I knew was we were moving and had to find a place to live. I remember looking in the newspaper and showing my mom listings of homes for sale and saying "here's one, here's another". My mom never explained why we couldn't buy another house.

My parents waited til the very end, probably because they didn't know where to turn for help.  Looking back I think they were embarrassed and sad.

We all hope that some miracle will happen and money will fall out of the sky to get us thru this crisis. And when it doesn’t, sometimes it is too late to do anything. The current housing crisis has affected people of all professions and income levels.

Facing up to the fact that something should be done, even if it means selling the house on a short sale, is the first step. Making the call to get help is the next step.

Losing a home, while it feels pretty bad, is not the end of the world. Our families are more important. Taking control and moving forward will pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. Have faith - everything generally always works out.
