The Olivenhain Arts and Crafts Fair took place yesterday in Olivenhain at the Town Hall on Rancho Santa Fe Road just a hop, skip and jump from the heart of town. This was the 32nd annual fair - a well established tradition in the Encinitas area. It was a beautiful fall day, the first after almost a week of ugly gray weather, perfect for the folks who staffed their booths and displayed their creations (about 75 vendors but I'm not sure of the exact number).
The fair ran from 9 until 4 with a good crowd throughout the day. Booths were scattered about in the park area surrounding the town hall, as well as in the hall itself, with plenty of parking and room to meander among the various artists and crafts people. The 4-H Club was there selling Dog Treat Wreaths, among other goodie.
Something Old Linens displayed pillows and other items made from heirloom linens, as well as a line of hand made gift tags with colorful characters, sachets and book markers. N. Bahr Designs displayed an artful array of scarves, handbags, belts, aprons and other hand-made creations. One other booth was offering beautiful art glass, and another a host of hand-painted glassware (my favorites were the glasses decorated with palm trees).
If you missed the fair, be sure to put it on your calendar for next year. While there are others around (just about every town), the setting for this one and the time of year makes it especially nice, and good for holiday shopping.
