Markham Residential Driveway Snow Plow Windrow Removal Assistance - Winter 2011/2012
A Snow Windrow is the pile of snow at the end of driveway that is created by snow plows plowing municipal roads and sidewalks.
SNOW WINDROW REMOVAL SERVICE
The Town of Markham offers a service to eligible residents to remove Snow Windrows from the end of the driveway that were created by road snow plows. Snow Windrows left by sidewalk plows will not be removed.
In general, within 8 to 12 hours after the roads have been plowed, the Town of Markham will send crews out to clear the centre portion of the Snow Windrow at the road. The width of the Snow Windrow that will be cleared is one car width only. Therefore, if you have a two car wide driveway or wider, only a portion of the Snow Windrow will be cleared.
If your residential property is located on a Primary Road, the Snow Windrow will be removed following a 5 cm (2 inch) snowfall. However, if your property is located on a Local Road, the Snow Windrow will be removed following an 8 cm (3 inch) snowfall.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
In order to qualify for the Snow Windrow removal program, all individual(s) residing in the household MUST BE 60 years or older. Proof of age is required. If any member of the household is under 60 years of age, then a current and valid doctor's certificate confiming that the under 60 years of age person is physically unable to clear snow must be provided.
If your residential home has a rear lane, your property does NOT qualify for the Snow Windrow removal service because different procedures are used to clear snow. Snow is pushed through the rear lane to the end of the rear lane and is hauled away. Thus, only a minmal amount of residual snow remains.
