ActiveRain University – Outside Blogs
I’ve done a lot in the year that I’ve been here, but there always seems to be so much more to learn and do. Maybe that’s why I stay here, where else can I learn so much so quickly.
I took some time to watch a video on Setting Up An Outside Blog.
I have dabbled a little with an outside blog, but haven’t really focused on it. I do post content to it, but having seen the video, I have a better understanding as to what to do with it. The narrator was Bob Stewart, who was very easy to follow in his instruction.
The one thing that really struck me about the outside blogs, was the fact that you can have more than one of them. It wasn’t until recently that I know you could even have one. As the video stated, one is included with your membership. If I’m paying for it, why not use it? And of course, if I’m going to use it, why not use it to the best of my ability? I’m working on that.
The idea of a second outside blog didn’t make a lot of sense at first. Why have two sites with the same content? So I listened some more and heard what others are doing with multiple sites. There are members who use the second site for special niches, specialized small target areas. This could be Dry Rot, Patio Homes, Spanish Tile Roofs, etc. The idea is that it is a small area of specialty that can be targeted as a result of special posts.
As a contractor, I do many different trades, but I specialize in Dry Rot and Water Damage. Perhaps I could have a second blog just for Dry Rot, where only posts that I write regarding this topic will be posted to that blog. The other posts can still go to the first outside blog that would target construction in general. I thought that it was a good idea to consider.
The video was easy to find, well done and informative.
I look forward to doing more of these in the future.
