Curb Appeal, starts with the steps

Curb Appeal is very important when it comes to finding a buyer for your home.  One item of 'curb appeal' that is often overlooked is the outside stairs or stairways of a home.

Do your stairs look appealing?  Put yourself in the place of a buyer pulling up in front of your home, do the stairs or stairway appeal to you or do they caution you?  You want the buyers to focus on your home.  You do not want the buyers focusing on being cautious using your steps.

A couple of things to consider about your steps.  Are they level, almost level is acceptable?  What is the maximum height of the steps?  Is it over seven and one half inches?  Are the steps a minimum of eleven and one half inches deep?  Close your eyes and walk up the steps, do they feel comfortable?  Is there a handrail?  Should there be one?  Building codes for handrail have changed over the years.  And what 'color' are the steps?  Is the color appealing?

If necessary, consider repairing or replacing the steps or stairways, make your home a positive experience to enter!  It begins with the steps.

Dan, Great comments about what leads to the house!  I find an incredible amount of problems with steps.  From the items you outlined to steps not even being secured to the concrete foundation or wood stringers!
