I guess some clients are just not meant to be. I had been keeping in touch with a lovely client that was relocating to Colorado from the Chicago area to make sure when she decided to purchase here and move, she would think of me. Well, I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I was on a cruise for a week over Christmas trying to keep my eye on my emails and voicemails, but I didn't respond as quickly as I normally would do, when she left me a couple voicemails, and I lost her to another agent. I am bummed. She DID try to contact me first, but when a buyer is ready......they are ready, especially in her case when her home suddenly went under contract also in my absence, and she needed to find something quickly. Sometimes a day or two is hard to wait when you need to find something NOW. It is my fault, as even though I called her before I left to check in with her, at which time nothing had yet happened, I should have told her that I would be out of town and if anything DID happen in my absence, she could contact my associate. I have learned a good lesson on this one, but I hate expenseive lessons.
Karen, I'm sorry that you had such and expensive lesson. But you are to be commended for telling others in the Rain about the importance of having an associate to help if needed. You may have just saved someone else from paying the same price for this lesson. Have a wonderful week.
Expensive lessons are the ones we remember the most. Having said that.....at least you learned!
To bad about not getting the referral. But you have to take time for yourself. Maybe the support network will be more organized next time. Possibly an agent will cover for you next time or a message on the phone that says email you.
Karen - It's too bad the public doesn't understand we work on commission and we don't get paid if you use someone else. I'm really bummed out for you too!
Hi Karen,
The cruise is more important than your client.
In fact, I agree you should have had an associate in charge while you were gone.
Then, you SHOULD NOT be monitoring emails and calls on the cruise.
Congrats on a mostly restful time off.
Next year, I would love to read a blog about how you really and truly took some time off!!!
PHil
Karen, If you would have stayed home her house wouldn't have sold ... and you would have missed the cruise! At least that's my experience.
Dear Karen - I am sorry :( It seems that week must have been that way for a few people. The secret I think ~ Keep the relationship in tack for the future, & hopefully there will be other referrals from them because of the relationship. In fact, that may come two fold, as they may feel badly at all your hard work...
I hit suggest, as I am sure there are many stories to share & I agree it will be helpful (or therapeutic...
Hi Karen,,,I'm sure that ou will do something different on your next cruise. right.....
