Who Do You Trust in Business?
I have been told numerous times, "People do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care". Well, it's the same way with trust too. Trust is not something that happens instantly, but is earned over a period of time or a series of events in each of our lives. I found this to be especially true in business. People only like to do business with those they have learned to trust, and those who have demonstrated that they can be trusted by their honesty, integrity, and character.
We develop relationships with our sellers and our buyers, and would love to think that they trust us one hundred percent in representing their interests to assist them with selling or buying a home. But, what about our trust in our clients. I know whenever I have buyers sign that Buyer's Representation Agreement, I trust that will be loyal and committed with my services from agreement to closing, and beyond. However, for reasons unknown to me some buyers will disregard their agreement, and go off and purchase another home without you present, or even without informing the other agent or that builder's representative that they already have an agent representing them.
I would love to think that it didn't have anything to do with their trust in me, since I have always been truthful and up front with all my clients. Yet, I know this happens in our business, and no one ever seems to worry about how much trust we must have in them, or that they would honor their agreement, and let us help them all the way to closing and beyond. I believe trust goes two ways, and should never be one sided.
If you are in any kind of business, sooner or later, the trust that you worked so hard to build with others, may be easily broken by a single event or a chain of events. This will surely happen when you trust in a another person. But one thing that I have learned in all my years is that you have to trust in someone, whether it's a good friend, a husband, a wife, a parent, a relative, or a business associate.
This song by Andrae Crouch expresses my feelings on TRUST.
I have been through a lot of challenges in my life, but I have l learned to Trust in my Lord, and to depend on his strength to get me through all of trials and circumstances.
