Dreamfest 2012: A Tribute to Martin
January 13 - February 11, 2012
Each year in January we recognize and celebrate the life, work and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. MLK, Jr. Dreamfest 2012 is a series of events and activities planned as a means to educate, inspire and challenge us to create a welcoming, inclusive community that lives together in an atmosphere of cooperation, respect and understanding all year long. All events are free and open to the public. Dreamfest 2012 is a partnership between the Town of Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department, Town of Cary Spruce Program and the MLK, Jr. Task Force of Cary.
MLK, Jr. Dreamfest Memorial Concert: "A Tribute to Martin"
January 14, 4 p.m. at the Cary Arts Center
Enjoy an evening of inspiring music with the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble (TYJE) and The Raleigh LDS Stake Choir and Soloists. TYJE will play the Ellington Sacred Songs with guest vocal soloist Rev. Iris Jordan. The Raleigh LDS and Stake Choir will perform Come to the House of the Lord, a program of ten original and beautiful songs. The evening will also include a remembrance of the life and vision of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Reception to follow.
MLK, Jr. Dreamfest Day of Service
Monday, January 16, 10 a.m. – Noon and 2-4 p.m. at Middle Creek Community Center
MLK once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" The MLK Day of Service is a national campaign urging citizens to give back to their community on the King holiday. In 2012 volunteers will spread mulch on the playing fields, disc golf course and open space at Middle Creek Community Center.
MLK, Jr. Dreamfest Dream of Democracy March
Monday, January 16, 10 a.m. in Downtown Raleigh
Join other Triangle residents at the 31st Annual MLK, Jr. Commemorative March in downtown Raleigh. Transportation will be provided from Cary Town Hall.

Saturday, February 11, 2 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center
African-American History comes alive! Join Le’Grant Taylor to view his art and his story of looking ahead with promise to something greater born from the wisdom and knowledge of the past.
