What is trust? It is defined as "Reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence; confident expectation of something; hope."trusting hand

In thinking about it, there really isn't a lot of that going around these days. From false identities to unresolved expectations, trust is something few and far between it seems. Every day in my job I hear of SEO companies that have dropped the ball, won't finish the job or tacked on hidden fees at the end of the project. No wonder the SEO business is getting a bad rap.

But this only makes me push harder to be set apart, to rise to a higher standard and far exceed the expectations of my clients. While I am always learning I want to instill a level of trust with my clients that I WILL finish the job; I WILL only charge you what was quoted; and I WILL protect your privacy and security.

Performing back end website work for dozens of people means my clients must trust me with confidential passwords and log-ins. This is not easy to do for some and many web hosts won't even give it to their clients, much less a third party. Rules and laws are typically put into place because it's been an issue in the past. You've see those crazy laws that seem so ridiculous like in Nebraska where it is illegal to sell donut holes! You know some mom had that law passed after her kid choked on one. If it's a law, its because some idiot attempted it and now we all are confined to these rules.

under promise and over deliverTrust is not easily earned but must be given in order to earn it.

Once trust is broken it can be very hard to repair. Yes, mistakes happen but if too many of those mistakes cause unwarranted harm on the opposite party, trust may never be won back.

I take the trust my clients have in me very seriously. I want to under promise and over deliver. I want to consistently offer that extra level of customer service that gets lost in big business and companies these days. When I see it though, I reward it. That extra smile at the drive-through, the additional "thank you" at the store, or the consideration a client has in their expectations.

So what is trust and what does it mean to me? It means I am on the inside circle somewhere in somone else's world. To me, that means everything.

Tammy this sums it up perfectly!  Job well done my friend. So what is trust and what does it mean to me? It means I am on the inside circle somewhere in someone else's world. To me, that means everything.

I don't like being outside that circle with people I really know and love. That;s probably when it hurts the most. Thankfully I think I am on the inside... at least most of the time! ;-)

Tammy -- you have set forth the foundational material about how trust can be maintained, as well as how easy it is to lose it.

May you and yours have a Blessed New Year!

Tammy ~ without trust, there is no relationship.  Being on the inside circle is a priviledge and needs to be resepected, as you have stated.

Hi Tammy - Broken trust is like trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube.  Not going to happen.

Hi Tammy, trust lost  from someone ,you thought was a friend or associate ,is like a divorce.

You confided in that person and thought you could trust them.

Once the trust is lost, it will never be regained. Count your true friends and your blessings.

The family values are changing. I grew up to honor your elders, speak only when spoken to ,

and you trusted your friends and relatives.
