writing market reportsThink those market reports are boring? I admit to not enjoying the task of putting them together. There, I said it. I feel much better now. However, let me tell you what my boring market reports have done for me.

  • Helped me to learn my markets inside and out.
  • Helped with my listing presentations.
  • Helped me to understand what is going on in other parts of the country.
  • Given me more Google MILK.
  • Show that I am an expert in my local markets, that I UNDERSTAND what is going on.
  • Gotten me calls and emails. (And that is what it is all about, isn't it?)

I read complaints from those who think market reports clog up the blog rolls. My advice is to scroll past them if they bother you that much! But more to the point, how about reading some of them? Some of them are just hit it out of the ballpark awesome, chocolate milk shake spectacular! I have taken quite a bit of inspiration from other market reports I have read. And I have found myself spurred on by those that post market reports on a regular basis here. When I see them on the blog roll I remember that I better kick my butt into gear and post my market reports!

Here is my best advice for market reports. (and it's free advice no less)

  • Don't just spew out facts and figures
  • Tie the information together with a big red ribbon by actually commenting on the state of the market
  • Figure ways to tie information about the area you are reporting on in your market reports
  • Make it visually appealing
  • Make it easy to understand
  • You can even tie your listings into market reports if you want to!

Real Estate Market Stats

So the next time a market report rolls in front of you on the blog roll, quit rolling your eyes, click on it and learn something! How to do a better market report, what is going on in other areas of the country, you can even learn what you don't want to do on your own market report. What can I say? Just click it and read. And you can't really read when your eyes are rolling around in your head anyway.

And for the month of January you can get some bonus points for posting three of them, if you follow the rules. Market Reports, Get Recognition and Bonus Points. So not only do I learn more, get more Google MILK, get more recognition in my community, AND get more potential clients, I get EXTRA POINTS TOO!

One more thing for those of you that don't quite grasp the power of doing something collectively. The more we post about things like this on ActiveRain, the more the consumer is driven to our blogs. Think on that for a bit!
