Multisports.com and Petco invite two- and four-legged runners, walkers, and waggers to join in the first Petco WALK.RUN.WAG. to take place at 7:00 a.m. on January 15, 2012. Race starts at 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard (the Del Mar Racetrack) in Del Mar, California.

5K9 SeriesThis is the initial event in the new 5K9 series sponsored by Petco and Purina Pro Plan in support of healthy lifestyles and local pets. Furture series are in Tempe, Arizona, on March 4, and San Antonio, Texas, on April 1.

You can actually walk or run a 5K or 1-mile course with or without your dog, so come out to support your family pet, a friend's pet, a beloved pet that is no longer with you, and pets everywhere!

DogYou can also participate as a member of a team.

Of course, there will be a pet expo where you and your dog can shop for pet products, sports products, and more.

There will be awards in several categories, including by gender and age.... of the person, not the dog.

The awards ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Wyland Center on the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

To register or find out more information, visit WALK.RUN.WAG. Registration cost ranges from $24 to $49 depending on what race you are running and whether your four-legged companion will be participating. On the Registration Page is a discount code for 20% your registration.

Jim~Anything positive that shines light on pets gets a big THUMBS UP from me! I've done doggie dashes, and even did a Mutt Show at an assisted living community where I worked many years ago--it was a total success and raised money for The Humane Society and was just a HOOT!

Now this sounds like a fun time for all - including the four legged participants! I used to walk my dog a lot but he has gotten so afraid of noises like loud trucks he has to be really motivated.

Great event and you can see the dogs walking their owners.  Cats are a little smarter, they know they don't have to do that and end up with lots of attention anyway.  Nice write up.

Hi Jim - That sounds like a lot of fun.  I don't think you could take Zoey, though.  She wouldn't enjoy it at all, wiht all those pesky dogs around (that's how my cats think of dogs).
