You Can Lead a Horse to Water, but You Can’t Make Them Blog!
Trying to get someone to do what could be beneficial to them can be a challenge. Getting an Invitee to stay aboard and be a consistent blogger is just as difficult as trying to make that horse drink. It’s not that they don’t see the success you may be having, but I believe more a fear of not being able to look professional in their postings and then coming off as less than professional as a real estate agent.
I know my first efforts at blogging were difficult and more labor than I felt should be needed to post consistently. If not for the patience of the person that sponsored me in showing me how a post could so quickly rise to the top of a Google Search, I too may have quit.
Blogging doesn’t need to be difficult. We have so much in our daily activities that provides us blog fodder. We can be so knowledgeable with what we do that we take so much as a given. Unfortunately, we fail to recognize that for many of our clients, we could be speaking a foreign language when we start to talk about what needs to be done to make the transaction work.
By blogging about even the most basic of activities, we get into our comfort zone. The words just flow, and the consistency in how we make those words flow, and the common sense imparted with them starts to create the audience we seek, and the business comes from that.
I have sent out many an invitation, some of which were accepted, most of which were ignored. The people that accepted, may have watched, or even tried a post or 2 and lost interest. A client didn’t follow just because they put their name to a blog.
It doesn’t stop me from discussing blogging, or even trying to get new people to become active.
As long as there’s water in my pond, I will try to bring more horses to drink. Maybe just one of them will be thirsty to stop and stay a while.
