Wisdom From My Dad...Whatever You Do Make It Count!

Services for Real Estate Pros with Exit Beach Realty BK645709

I spent my youth trying to be opposite of my mom and dad, I swear I thought they were the worst parents.  As you get older you realize they weren't so bad and then you realize you have many of their traits.

My father, John Terwilliger inspires me everyday.

I remember my first day of college, he wrote me a note on a piece of paper bag. Just thinking about it now, made me smile... it got me thinking about how special that moment was and how it made a big difference in my life.

I imagined that I was sleeping and he was walking down the hall, he grabbed his lunch a light bulb went off in his head, probably smiling and thought " Midori is starting college."

I gotta feeling he was proud.  He grabbed a pen and tore a piece of a grocery bag and left this note on my dresser:

You'll do fine in college. You are hard working just like your father.

I love you

That note gave me an extra step to my strut.  I was feeling good...I really enjoyed my first day of college.  I could not wait to get home to tell my dad.

The moral of the story- Little actions mean so much...those actions creates moments....moments creates memories!  My dad taught me to make it count, anything and everything I do.  Why, because I can because I am capable because I am hard working just like him!

Our parents do little things that inspire us so much! Sure we have our stubborn moments when we argue and disagree but at the end of the day they're our inspiration! Your post reminds me of the support they gave me when I went to college!

Did you get to keep the note?

My dad always gave me good advice too. Unfortunately I didn't always take it, but he ended up always being right. Great post.

After about the age of 19 or 20, it seemed the older I got the smarter my dad got. So many things I learned the hard way would have been easier to take if I had started listening earlier.

Any cards that I received from my father were followed by a simple, "love, dad"- and that was enough.  Great story!

Midori - You have shared such an amazing message that has left a joyful peace in my heart. Tears in my eyes and a desire to hug my kids!! Thank you for sharing your inspired tribute of your father! Just wonderful. One of my fondest memories comes from an old 'lover' that took a minute out of his day to scratch a little note on a piece of used paper that he tore into a shape of a heart and just told me he was thinking of me today. As little and insignificant as that was, it meant the world to me! I can only imagine how it must have felt coming from a parent and sharing their support and love! Thank you again for sharing your charming story!
