Condominium Review:  Zephyr Mountain Lodge

Zephyr Mountain Lodge consists of two buildings located at the base of the Winter Park ski resort.  The buildings, known as "slopeside" and "riverside", are about as close to the mountain as you can get, unless you pitched your tent on one of the ski runs.  Both buildings are eight stories high and consist of one, two and three-bedroom units.  The units range from 569 square feet to 1,818 square feet and are priced from the mid-$300s all the way up to $1.2 million for the largest unit.

Built in 1999, the units are generally in good condition, with updated finishes, though not always the nicest.  If you're looking for granite counters and hardwood floors, you may have to do some remodeling, though some units do already have these renovations.  The parking for these buildings is in a common garage located underground.  Additional amenities include a hot tub and cable tv.  Being so close to the ski area, these units do quite well when placed on a rental program through the lodge itself.

These units are best-suited for the avid skiier and snowboarder.  If you just have to get the first tracks through virgin powder, these are it.  these units are also great if you need that rental income in order to make it work financially, they have a strong rental history.  Additionally, with a new $70 million dollar base village being put in by Intrawest, these units stand to become even more attractive.  Unless you just have to be "on the slopes" however, you might consider broadening your search to include Downtown Winter Park, which will offer a little more for the money and still have great access to the ski area via a free resort shuttle.
