So what do cornstarch and Tide® have to do with real estate? Well…. really nothing, but hopefully the title of this blog intrigued you enough to read it! It’s been an interesting week. I learned a few things that I want to share:
Agents on Active Rain have awesome ideas! I read a post in early December where someone sent their clients scratch-off lottery tickets in Christmas Cards with the tagline, “I am lucky to have great clients like you.” I copied this idea and received some great feedback and business from it this week.
Providing past clients with something of value is a great way to keep in touch. I maintain a list of recommended service providers (painter, electrician, carpet cleaner etc….) and offer recommendations to my clients. It’s really starting to work. Clients are thinking of me as a continued source of information after the closing and it has turned into a great way to get referral business from other service providers.
New business can come from anywhere. I went to the gym this morning, even though I was pressed for time. I was walking around the track and talking to a friend about real estate. A woman overheard our conversation and said she was looking for a realtor. I got an appointment and a workout!
Social media is powerful. It can be really good and really bad. I posted on Facebook this week that I am going to the Dominican Republic for 12 months. I’m not really going to the Dominican Republic. I was participating in a game to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. I received a few comments on Facebook, but a lot more phone calls, inquiries and gossip from people, including my managing broker, wondering why I was leaving town. Oops!
Price reduction requests need to be made face to face with clients. My emailed market reports were not getting the job done. I made 2 evening appointments this week and got the price reductions needed to get the homes sold.
The last thing I learned this week… when your child comes home from school with Vaseline in their hair from an art project, it takes cornstarch and Tide® to get it out!
