My Garden Kittens - An Entry In the Russel Ray Photos January Contest

 

Recently we had a neighbours Cat decide that under our porch was a great place to give birth to her litter. The porch provided a protected cave for her young while she was out hunting for their next meal. The sun drenched stone steps offered a warm place for her to feed her young while sunning herself. The garden offered a jungle like environment for the kittens to learn about and practice their hunting and stalking skills as they chased frogs and bugs under the canopy of garden leaves. Our location in the country offers a great source of food for mom to catch, over the few weeks that they resided here she was always bringing back field mice, chipmunks and even squirrels for her young to feast upon.

For me it was an opportunity to do a photo session or two. It took some time before the kittens would even sit still long enough for me to get a picture let alone focus or line up the perfect setting so I have a collection of shots that need some help. Russel Ray's challenge to find our best worst shots brought these photos to mind. I call them my garden kittens.

This picture was one of my favourites
but it is marred by the green watering can
and the bug eaten leaves of the Hosta directly behind the kitten

cropping the picture will get rid of most of the watering can

but not all and now the leaves are more visible

If I win the contest
I will win an easy to use photo editing software program that will allow me to fix these flaws
