Last week I had the honor of being in attendance at the Grand Rapids Association of Realtors (R) building and helping out (somewhat) with a Blogging and Technology Seminar (or Web 2.0 vs. 1.0) that our own Lola Audu was the main speaker.  This is her 2nd in as many weeks and her third this year that she has been so willing to share about the future and now of blogging with anyone in the Real Estate profession or any other related industry.    Renee Rothenthaler (who did a stellar job with the set up and delicious treats), Therese VanderMeer and I helped signed guests in for this very informative event.Renee, Ed, ThereseFood TableAudienceMany current AR members were in attendance, as well as sponsors of this event- and quite a few Newbies and future members.  Sara Bonert, a spokesperson with Zillow came in from Chicago, Il. was also a guest speaker.  Sara Bonert They both spoke not only of Active Rain, but FaceBook and several other internet sights that can connect us with consumers.   It's exciting to see and hear the people who are newer to this finally "getting it". If you're reading this post then you are already in the here and now of technology (blog, blog, blog).  But now there's talk of Web 3.0?

Hi Ed, It's amazing to think that there have been three of these conferences this year!  A year and a half ago, I hadn't even heard of blogging. This year, it's had an incredible impact on our business.  Amazing!

Lola--would you be more specific on how you feel it's impacted your business?  Thanks!

Ed, how awesome that you had such re-known speakers visit Grand Rapids. The ones who haven't figured out the value in blogging will be surprised how quickly they will be left in the dust.

Christina - Mostly to keep this up, the blogging, making yourself known and being active on these sights.  Answer questions when asked on different forums - just giving yourself an internet presence.

Hi Lola:  You and me both.  But I certainly owe all of this to you, and more:)  Thanks!

Mary - Since you made it to Lola's very first seminar (on that blustery, blizzardy, day), you already know much of what needs to be done, because you've been doing it quite well.   Make yourself active on line - that's where the consumer of today is.

Duane:  I agree with you completely.  It is great to have these speakers together.  I think more RE Agents are getting involved, even though at first they didn't feel it was necessary, but now see the value of this.

Ed, I have invited some of my friends to A/R that I feel would be great bloggers. Your correct, they don't understand the value of the process.

Looks like you had a great time there. Blogging is so much fun. You have the ability to be yourself. That's what the customer needs. Someone who is being themselves.

Wish I could have gone - heard it was great!

Hi Duane - I have the same thing.  They're not sure what they are getting involved in so they're a little tentative.  I try to explain it, but until they jump in and get their feet wet...

Hi Robert - I think being yourself is what's key to making it here.  That's the difference between the 1.0 and 2.0; interaction.  By the way - where were you for my open house?  :)

Hello Dana:  the learning and the time together (and, of course, the food) was great.  There will probably be another one in the near future.

Hi Ed - that was an interesting day, wasn't it!!! Mother Nature sure plays some tricks in our state!

The seminar I attended was invaluable. My circle of friends has grown tremendously over the past 6 months as well as my knowledge on many topics. We have a very intelligent and articulate group of people on AR!

Hi Mary - I couldn't agree with you more!  There are so many wonderful AR writers that have so much to contribute.  Robert is talking about getting a cruise together for us!  Doesn't that sound fun?

Hi Ed,  Great Blog about Blogging!! Even though we have been fortunate enough to have been able to participate in all 3 of the blogging seminars, I still learn something new every time.  Lola does a wonderful job in keeping her information new, up to date and fresh.  :-)

All the Best!

Okay Mary - socializing and networking sounds great, too:) I'm not quite sure of myself singing-along.   Speaking of networking - how did your first Green Drinks meeting go?

Hi Ed!  Just found you from your comment on my blog.  I am so glad to see that you are applying what you learned already by being a part of AR.

To respond the question you posed about Web 3.0-  I am not totally sold that there is such a thing yet.  I think people are still massaging the 2.0 phenomena and working to capitalize on its popularity.  But if I had to guess on 3.0, I would say that it is all about mobile and the PC/Laptop will have very little to do with it.

All the best to you,  Sara

Hi Sara - Our whole team became part of the AR Network around the same time; Lola showed us the site and before we knew it, we had created a blog.  It's been fun and informative.  Thanks for your input on the 3.0.

Ed, your right about jumping in and getting their feet wet. It's either sink or swim and blogging becomes somewhat off a life preserver for business.
