Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art
The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) is one of only two museums in the United States to land Jean Paul Gaultier's unique exhibit "From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk." From the moment you enter the exhibit, your attention is drawn to Gaultier's vibrant colors, interesting textures, and creative designs. The talented designer finds inspiration in every facet of the world around him. My favorite design is a colorful silk velvet draped evening gown that is hand painted with iconic Parisian images including the Eiffel Tower. Both haute couture and ready-to-wear pieces are featured in the exhibition.
The presentation of the 130 Gaultier designed pieces is as extraordinary as the collection, itself. You are greeted by talking mannequins as you enter the first gallery. Men, women and children are mesmerized by the lifelike creations. A catwalk complete with parading mannequins makes you feel as though you are attending a runway show in Paris. Many Gaultier designed costumes worn by Madonna are featured in the exhibit. I wonder if Gaultier is designing Madonna's costumes for her upcoming Super Bowl performance!
This innovative exhibition will be at the DMA until February 12, 2012.
