Trust comes from within and moves outward.
Trust is the foundation to all relationships. Build it strong and it will last a lifetime despite any adversity that may come into play. Will it be tested? Of course, that is sure. Build it upon lies and deceit and eventually it comes tumbling down, ruinous for all time.
Trust must be mutual. Any deviation from one party to deceive and long term bonds will be stressed. Family relationships depend on trust as the basis for their connection and when one refuses to do the right thing, it severs the relationship, creating a rift that may in time be healed but also may forever set adrift the boundaries of trust.
To me, trust is:
- Dependability
- Mutual respect
- Maintaining ethical actions
- Standing behind your family
- Keeping confidences with good friends
- Valuing personal / professional relationships
- Selflessly lending a helping hand when necessary
- Never taking advantage of someone when they're down
Every move we make requires trust; whether relying on ourselves to make good, solid decisions or allowing someone else to help along the way. Lack of trust prevents people from exploring new relationships, from reaching out to fulfill their potential through feelings of fear.
I am so guilty of that. As a young adult, I didn’t take chances or risks due to a chaotic-filled childhood, for example: My father leaving my mother with six children, never looking back, my great grandfather dying after he said he’d never leave me, a cousin deploying to Vietnam with promises of returning, only to be shipped back in a coffin. It took me years to overcome all that.
Trust doesn’t come easy and never should and a trust ought not be intentionally broken because you may never get it back.
