Kristin, Honesty is always the best policy, following the TOS (terms of service ) for an organization is very critical to its members as a group. The AR staff do their best to facilitate this.
Detailed points for points lol. Thanks for the breakdown..it will help those that want to be helped :)
hmmm what if I could be #1 is it worth it to be a scammer?
just kidding - do it right and never look back. Do it wrong and be the ridicule of the communit as well as loss of rep and (should be a severe loss of points or account deletion
TYPING AWAY AT MY COMPUTER EACH DAY ENJOYING THE RAIN SEE YOU AT THE TOP ONE POST AT A TIME. WE ARE WWW.ALLABOUTTEXOMA.COM EACH AND EVERY DAY. SERVING THE COMMUNITY
There is a certain realtor who covers Quakertown, PA, who is quickly approaching 1,000,000 points as a Rainmaker. I say quickly because he reposts featured posts so prolificly that I can't see how he can even take the time to read them all -- sometimes more than 100 reposts per month. I don't see where this is adding any value to A/R and certainly lends rise for me to question his ethics. He even had the gaul to repost "Can you put a price on your principles? Are they worth $0?" back on 12/13/10. I don't believe he's ever posted an original thought. Just doesn't seem like "Getting Points The Honest Way"...
Kristin,,,,,great post. I like the focus on the positive!
Kristin - I suggested this for a Feature. This is a timely topic!
Hi Gretchen and Mel.
Yes all new AR members should maybe be required to read some type of code of ethic and sign. But that only is good for honest people. I used to be a police officer and was very negative for many years but I now believe most people are good, follow the rules, and strive to do the right thing. There will always be a few bad apples but I have a more positive look on life now that I am in a new career.
Hi Robert and Lisa,
I am usually always positive and light on subject but since our community has been shocked recently I thought maybe a reminder was good for all of us. Thanks for stopping and supporting my choice of subject.
Hi Jo,
Every organization must have rules and regulations. I agree, I think the staff at ActiveRain does a wonderful job. They are always there to respond to us and there are sure a lot more of us then of them to go around. I am surprised they respond as fast as they do. It is a fantastic community and I am proud to be a part of it.
Hi Sally,
I think sometimes the newcomers do not quite understand how it all works as I remember I didn't for a month or more. There is probably more ways to get points but this was all I could think of at the moment. The contests seem to be the best route besides daily blogging and commenting.
Hi David,
Yesterday I wrote a pretty negative blog about what had happened recently. John McCormick wrote a good comment as well. He said "Play by the rules or don't play at all".
Like you, I have followed rules all my life and career and cannot imagine playing a hoax on a whole group of people for something so worthless as a few points!
Hi Laura,
Yes one post at a time will put you on top before you know it. Thanks for stopping and commenting. Have a nice weekend.
Hi John,
Wow anyone nearing 1,000,000 must be doing something more than reblogging? I wish we could get credit for more than 10 posts a week but I am sure there is a reason for that rule too.
Have a lovely Sunday and I appreciate your comments. I have serveral Home Inspectors I work with in my area and I know how hard they work finding all the problems in the homes we sell. Job security for you...forever.
Hi Christine,
I think we must move on and be positive. It is a great community and a new day for us all. Thanks so much for stopping to comment.
Hi Gail,
Thanks for suggesting my post. I thought long and hard on this one as I am still in a funk. But I think it is important to re-enforce the rules often to all. Have a great Sunday.
All should remember that the points are not necessarily an indicator of business success. Those that write localisms that create contacts with new clients are the winners on ActiveRain.
Have an outstanding week!

I certainly agree but the points sometimes keep us coming back day after day. Most of us in sales are very competitive so we are usually competing with ourselves on the score.
Localism posts are so important and they tend to bring us the business. Thanks for sharing Roy!
There have been a lot of posts this weekend about how points are scored and ways around the system - I'm very new to AR (16 days!) and am confused about how a professional would value points more than integrity. Maybe I'll be less ingorant when I've been around a while, but I sure hope not.
Hi Wayne and Jean Marie,
That is an exceptional question and I thought the same thing myself. Once a wise person told me that good things come from bad. I do believe that so perhaps with all this activity, we will all remember to never do anything to tarnish your reputation, your broker's reputation, and any organizations you belong to. Thanks for stopping and have fun on the Rain. I will be reading your posts and commenting back. Best wishes for a new experience here.
