Laramie, Wyoming Real Estate: Devil's Tower

Yep, Wyoming is smack in the middle of the Rocky Mountain west. Thus, there are miles and miles of open space. Once you get on the road, it easily can be 60 miles or more to the nearest gas station. But don't let that scare you - just plan ahead.  With virtually no traffic you can get places quicker than you think.  It was with that in mind that our family embarked on a weekend whirlwind tour of the Devil's Tower/Black Hills.

     Rainy Day at Devil's Tower

First stop, Devil's Tower.  Five hours from Laramie, raining, cold, gray... but still glad we came!

Maybe not everyone's idea of family vacation, but I loved being able to share the experience with our kids - no matter how cold and shivery!

I think road trips are great family time. I want to get to Devil's Tower and the Black Hills very soon. I hope to shoot for this destination next October. When my daughter has a week off in February, we are planning to go to Arches and Canyonlands.

What created Devil's Tower? Surely not just a volcanic eruption. Guess we will have to go see to find out.......

Hi Debbie,  October should be perfect!  It is such a beautiful area up there - I hope you do get the chance.....

Hi Than, There are several theories as to how it was created and I do believe volcanic activity is one of them... but you'll have to go anyway just to find out for sure!

Brenda, Thanks for sharing your trip with us and your photo of Devil's Tower.  I grew up in Wyoming and went to school in Laramie but have never seen Devil's Tower.  I will have to go sometime.

We went to see Devil's Tower two summers ago. It was a nice sunny day, and warm too. But I thought the wind would blow us all the way to Nebraska...

Yes, Gary, you will have to go sometime - the Tower itself is very cool and the area up there is just gorgeous!

Hi, Tim - I suppose Nebraska could have been nice that time of year....
