One other thing that builders do (and this would include the actual builder and the one who is directing the builder such as the family who is having a house built) is have one bath for the master suite.

That bath may be as large as a living room but it usually includes one commode.  I have been in million plus houses and see that master bath with one commode.  How much does a commode cost?  Not much.  I even see that one commode sitting in the middle of the bathroom but usually the nicer houses have a little closed area for it.

The very best thing we did when building our house was to make a his/hers bath in our master suite.  He has his bath (he's a bath room hog!) and I have mine.  We are never rushed and we never have to share the bath space.  It's wonderful.

I suppose we could be unique in that we both get up and get dressed for work or play at the same time.  Some spouses may remain in bed until the early riser is gone.  And I guess with most families the wife is sent to the 1/2 bath which may not be too far from the master or to the second bath which is in the hall. (Pity that wife if there are kids in the house!)

Take my word for it if building.  Do two baths in the master!!

Laugh if you will ....but my mother has always attributed her happy marriage to seperate bathrooms and CLOSEST!

There are just things men don't need to know we do...or BUY is her philosophy! At 80 I aint arguing either...

Have a great day!

This is something that not a lot of people may think about until faced with it themselves. =).

Hi Barbara,

I sold a home last year that had a very large bathroom attached to the master bedroom and at the end of it were two doors opposite each other and they were rooms just large enough for commodes.  And in the power room there were padded walls to cut down on the noise!

Paige, that is so funny and a great way of putting it.  No matter how long married, some things need to remain private!  I agree with your mom.

Lots of dual-income-no-kids couples need a five bedroom, four-bath house. This way each has a bedroom, an office, their own bathroom and a guest room. May as well live in two separate houses. I think Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy had the right idea!
