The Flufftastic Fairy Says: Make the Most of Your Small Space - the Kitchen

We live in a small house, just over 1000 sq feet. It was built in the '40's and has a lot of character, that's why we love it!

Unfortunately there isn't always room for all my stuff...

Many people have the same problem and here are some ideas to make your small Kitchen more efficient! (Here are some tips for your Living Room.)

Paint the walls and ceiling in the same shade, that way corners and boundaries disappear. Having the cabinets the same colour also can make the room appear larger. cabinets

Stainless steel back splash can also reflect light and like a mirror make a room appear larger.

Changing texture is a good way to keep it from getting boring, a marble backs plash in the same tone as a glossy cabinet surface will still keep the colour scheme going. backsplash

Keep the hardware in the same tone as cabinets, brushed nickel for light colours and oil rubbed bronze for dark.

pulls for light cabinets

Concealed grip instead of hardware on cabinets will keep the flow uninterrupted to the eye.

no pulls

Get cabinetry that reaches to the ceiling, It makes the walls seem taller and there is more storage for things not used too often. Glass doors in cabinets and entry ways make a room appear larger and brighter.

Baskets are your friend! Neat and tidy storage for open shelves or counter tops. Napkins, bills, cookbooks or dishes can all be kept organized in one spot.

Keep a 'quick meal kit' with cookbook, plates and napkins that can come out at a moments notice!

Opt for smaller appliances, and try to find cover panels that match your cabinetry doors.

Make a small island out of upper cabinets back to back. They are a foot deep and your island will then only be 24 inches deep with storage from both sides! Put it on wheels and you can reconfigure the island if more room is needed! Many cabinet places have a back room that have discontinued cabinetry you can buy for cheap. Same goes for counter tops!

Glasses that are tapered can be stored alternating mouth up and mouth down to save space.

Get a utensil rod for the sink wall, it doesn't get a lot of use and it makes utensils more handy.
wall storage

To make a pop up desk or table get a fold away shelf that mounts to the wall. It can also be used as prep space in a pinch.foldingshelf

Round tables ease traffic flow, and drop leaf tables can make more space when needed.

Wheeled kitchen trolleys can offer many uses from serving to prep space to storage.trolley

Spices can be hidden in a narrow depth space, by making shelves and then hiding them with chalkboard with a push latch! Or buy a rack and put it inside a cabinet door!

Pot racks can free up cabinet space or use the oven to store pots. Just make sure to check in there before you pre-heat!potrack
