Laramie, Wyoming Real Estate: Spelunking Wind Cave

If you clicked on this post to see just what Down, Down, Downspelunking is then I'm afraid you'll be disappointed - its not nearly as tawdry as it sounds! ; )

It merely means the hobby or practice of exploring caves.  A caving purist would certainly not consider our guided tour as "spelunking", but too bad!

Touted as the third longest cave in the U.S. and the fourth in the world, Wind Cave holds a nostalgic place in my heart.

My first visit there was when I was a kid.  I remember how awed I was at the complete and utter blackness when they turned out all the lights-  which I know now is a standard of any cave tour.

Admittedly, there are sparklier, prettier caves but I always find myself back at Wind Cave.

And even better it is only 4 1/2 hours from Laramie!

Brenda-  Those cave tours are pretty amazing.  We explored some of the caves up above Glenwood Springs one summer andit is astounding how dark it gets, how consistently cool they are, and the bravery (craziness) of the original explorers!  Thanks for sharing!

We've got a Wind Cave over on this side of the state too. Extreeeemely adventurous types can enter Wind Cave and exit Ice Cave a few hours and miles away...I'm told it involves some tight squeezes and an underwater portion. Those days are over for me...

Brenda,

I love going through caves - been to several in the midwest and east. :)

Hi Brenda, Exploring caves would be I think a fun experience. One I have never had. This summer I will be exploring an old mining tunnel out in east county. I sure hope I can get some decent photos  in the darker environment.

Hi Richard,  I heard from another pair on the tour that Carlsbad Caverns is a must see....

Hi Chris - Caves above Glenwood Springs....amazing all the places that have their own caves to explore!

Hey, Tim - Tight squeezes sounded doable, but an underwater portion .... yea, I think those days are gone for me, too!

Steve - funny how it seems the midwest should not be home to any caves.... don't know why I would think that?!

Maybe you can find some gold, too, William!

Hi Brenda,

I like the picture and frankly have never heard that word before. Thanks as I do crossword puzzles and it might show up sometime.

Kristin,

I have seen the word in crosswords before. Now, you'll get it with ease. :)
