Duh!!!OK, I am just having a brain fart and just don't want to research it myself... So I am throwing it out there for you to answer.

The best way to network is to go out and comment on other peoples blogs. This will in turn drive traffic back to your site...BUT MAN O MAN...it gets hard to keep up with them all. If you are constantly on outside blogs, how do you keep up with your comments? I have subscribed to them but that can be quite an email nightmare on top of my regular load. Unlike keeping up with the comments on Active Rain it is all in one place. Wordpress.com you have a list of comments made on other wordpress.com blogs.

How do you keep up with Typepad, blogger, wordpress.org... and etc, etc.

Does anyone have any easy way around this? Is there a site like MyBlogLog that keeps track of them? I have not jumped into all the social bookmarking site yet either. I get shouted at in DIGG. I am obviously not delicious

I don't have a good answer for you, as I'm experiencing the same kind of thing. I'd be interested in knowing too.

I think we can do what we can do and nothing more!  Getting the traffic to our websites is also one thing.  It is how you capture the information from the people that visit your site.  I would personally spend more time on that.  Networking is also done by becoming a member to all kinds of sites. myspace, craigslist, hi5, blackplanet, etc.  There are so many out there!  Good luck with the blogging log!  Post any information you might find!  Thanx

Bob, you need to invent a way to track comments and retire as a millionaire by this time next year.  (You may buy "shoes" for your female friends in appreciation for giving you this little push, hint-hint.)

Bob - You can find some of your favorite comments, and then proceed to copy and paste them which will save you a whole bunch of time in trying to keep up.  Seriously though, that is a difficult thing to keep up with.   I'm not sure I can offer a sure-fire solution.

An easy way to do this is to track your blogging in Excel.  Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no one site to do that for you.

Here's my secret.....I don't keep up with them.  I comment and that's it.  Very rarely do I ever go back.  I've never checked the box to be notified of updates.  You're way too noble.

So Maggie hits it and forgets it...got it.   I would of figured Jason doing that.

Matthew, I follow about 150 blogs on the outside world on my Google Reader.  Its when I make comments I don't want to subscribe to the comments by getting them in my email inbox.  I hear what you are saying but I don't know how excel would help me.

Jason, You need to venture outside the confines of the insane asylum.

Sarah, you wear shoes?  Jimmy Choo for you!

Lisa, I am not much into myspace networking.  I haven't got my arms around Facebook and LinkedIn yet.  I am out to build relationships on other peoples turf.

Linda, hang out...maybe we'll find it together

Commenting on outside blogs is more than I can handle.  Actually, AR is probably more than I can handle.

Bob, I hear ya, I have many AR members subscribed on rss. They are taking over my email. I have a very hard time commenting on my subscribers blog much less their outside blogs. I asked a few people do you want the comment here on AR or on the outside blog. Most don't care and AR is easier so I comment here. Have you ever thought this social networking had gone toooooo far. Most of the people on facebook, cree8buzz are here. I see them everywhere. If you figure it out let me know.

Sometimes I check back to see if they made a comment back to me, but never check the box. Sometimes I don't as I am too busy with clients.

Bob,
Earlier this week I came across this post on The Real Estate Tomato.  There are a few options mentioned in the article.  Hope this helps.

I've been here 3 weeks almost. I now have 3 blogs. I AM IN BLOG HELL!  HELP! I am trying to keep up with everything and I am taking in sooo much information in a short period of time. I have so many people here to thank. The inspiration is endless. I am trying too hard to implement everything at once. I should really try to take smaller bites. Maybe one blog at first?

Take a deep breath...slow down.  Blogging is not a sprint...its a marathon (you'll hear that a lot)  It takes a while to build a readership. (and relationships)  You'll do fine.  slowww down

I just heard something about new shoes so I showed up. Running is taking a toll on my shoes, count me in!  I'm training for a 1/2 marathon so I'm sure my shoes will be showing alot of wear.

Bob, after reading that you keep up with 150 outside blogs I can understand your dilemma.  I read about 7  ROFL  and I still hit it and forget it.  I go back for the next installment but I don't go back to the same post unless there's something there I have to follow.  (I have done that a couple of times though)

OK I have only tested on a couple so far on co.mments.com ...I'm liking it.  You can put it in your reader too.  I'll write about it later.  It works on here too.

Chris you can't run in Jim Choo shoes

Bob,
I am glad that it seems to be working for you.  I haven't started using it yet, but it seemed very interesting when I first read about it.

You're welcome, Lisa.  Hopefully it is the right solution!  I don't know how well they work, I just happened to catch that article a few days ago.

So far...over promised under delivered.  Feeds are very slow if non exsistant.  It seemed to work great out of the gate.  But the google reader is not being updated and the feed on the tracker page is missing comments.  Very hit and miss right now.  :(

There are 6 top bloggers in Silver Spring - They are all on my blogroll and I am on theirs.  We are called "the Silver Spring Collective" - We all blog about different things and in different styles but we link to each other and comment on each others blogs. I just go down my blog roll to see what everyones blogging about and try to comment on each one. I've been amiss in this lately but I try to comment on each of these at least one or twice a week.  I used to do it every day and should get back to doing that again - the Bloggers in Silver Spring are THE BEST and most talented in the DC area!

Check out the top silver spring blogs on my blogroll  at www.TheSilverBee.com

I only occasionally comment on blogs outside of Silver Spring.  There are some great blogs about DC and PG County that I like and I should do more commenting on them,  but who's got the time!?  I guess today is a good day since it's cold and ugly out - I can go do all that commenting right now!

The perfect answer is for those blogs to have an option to e-mail you if there are any new comments (like here in AR).  I subscribe to feeds via Bloglines.com but I don't subscribe to comments.  I go back to my bloglines feed and will go back to those posts I commented on to see if there's a response.

For those of you that have outside blogs - try to have the "notify me of new comments" option - it makes it easier for your readers and they come back for more.

Today's your lucky day I'm going to write a blog post about this later on in a just God's voice recognition software from Dragon NaturallySpeaking nine.  You can use it in any Microsoft base program including Internet Explorer I've been making comments all morning.  I was having the same problem that you were with finding the time to keep up with all its and writing quality blog posts oh yeah and working!  Yeah literally my comments are taking no time at all and I'm able to give a lot clearer and more detailed comment.

Hey Mr Pittsburgh, er, Frederick, errr.  Bob! LOL

First thing I did was to add all of the outside blogs I was already reading to my blog roll. (Well, almost all, you are going to be added when I am done here LOL)   So a perfect example is this week which left me no time to do much on here at all, so I went through today and read everyone on the blogroll.  And commented when I had something intelligent (ok semi intelligent) to say LOL  Then as I go along I add to the blog roll. That's my only strategy.  If some one I know locally tells me about a blog to read I read it for a while by saving to favorites to decide if I am going to keep reading and/or commenting.

Carole, I used to save to Favorites until I started using Google Reader.  I set it to only show updated Blogs.  I can scan the Headline and preview the blog without going to the site.  It's when I leave a comment say on your blog...I forget to return to see if you called me a bad name.

David, you are so off my technical support team. ;)

co.mments.com is the only utility that I know of, and I see that you've already found that. This is an interesting post, and definitely something to keep in mind as we build our traffic strategies.

Here's another tracking website you might try at cocomment.com. It's a plug-in for IE. I haven't tried it yet, so don't consider this a recommendation and try to get even with me. :)

Thanks John... the blogflux tool picked your comment a little while ago.  I don't use IE as much anymore, but may give it a try later..

Actually, I just found a post on this blog that the tracking plug-ins are considered a security risk for financial sites, specifically Citicards. I guess tracking your comments can also track what you do on a financial site? Something to think about; I haven't done any additional research on it, but thought you might want to know.

I have a recommendation for you Bob, that really DOES work!  I ALWAYS check the "notify me of new comments!"  If you set up Microsoft Outlook for your email, the solution is simple:  Click on 'tools' and then 'rules.'  Create a rule that sends anything from 'Active Rain' will go into your 'Active Rain' folder (which you can also create in this same process).  Then when you get a moment, you just go to your Active Rain folder and check as many of your comments/blogs as you have the time to check and respond to.

Let me know how this works for you!

Ohh John, that's scary.  Good thing I don't have a Citibank account or money in my bank account to lose. :)  All of this social plug in networking stuff can be dangerous.  Look what is happening on Facebook with their Beacon application.  Next you will see your customer service alerts on Facebook.  "Bob Carney has no funds in his Bank account, invite your friends to the MT pockets Application"  But that raises a lot of concern with any online banking or shopping process.

Thanks Debe, that is a great idea for the Active Rain comments.  My problem is following all the comments I make on other blogging platforms like; Six Apart, TypePad and Blogger.   Not all of them have the "notify me of any comments" feature, nor did I want them to fill up my Inbox.  Filters would be hard to set up for them as they are different for each post/user.

Joe,

Try creating a 'blog' folder and select a keyword 'blog' and anything that comes to your email account with blog in the subject line will automatically go into that folder!  That's what I do and it is a great timesaver!

As I've extended more into the blogging world, I'm having trouble keeping up.  When it comes to ActiveRain, it's almost a choice of whether to spend my time reciprocating comments or writing new posts - who has time for both?  I don't debate the value (or personal and business rewards), but it is time consuming.  If you find the magic bullet, please let us all know!
