" Is it beneficial to me to use a Realtor® when buying or selling real estate?" Don't they just stick up a for sale sign & wait for their phones to ring? We hear this alot. What you are forgetting is that we as real estate agents have a great deal more knowledge than you give us credit for. We know of alternative financing options, how to make the self-employed home owners' mortgage tax deductible, upcoming developments, which lenders offer different products, how to improve your credit rating, we are a great resource for trades should you need help with repairs &/or renovations, even different ways of handling the division of property during divorce. Just last week we helped a new client get out of their contract which they purchased from a for sale by owner. The seller convinced them they did not representation. Long story short the comps showed they were paying $50,000 to much. We just sold them a home and they said this is a better deal, ect and never again would they try to do anything without a realtor. They thought they were saving money and in the end purchased a home $100,000 less and is a better value and a better home for them.
