Social Media is my Medium

Social media this, social media that, gotta have it, takes too much time, don't understand it, social media, social media, what hasn't been said about the networking world that is social media. I have read nothing but social media books and blogs in the last few years, months, weeks and days. Attacking and both endorsing the medium seems to have become the new past time. 

All that being said, let it be known thatSocial Media is my muse, my medium so to speak. I look at social media as an art form, not just a place to share photos of the kids with mom, or post your resume, rather a place to explore, endure, and interact. A place that needs to be dived into full on, not a place to gently tip ones toe. Unfortunately I hear all too often about the negatives of indulging in social media platforms, there are a lot more positives than negatives in my book. 

I have to say that the one most obvious important positive about social media, especially for business people, is that, that is where the people are. Understand it, like it, hate it, don't want to touch it...the bottom line is the next generation of consumers is living, breathing, and buying on social media sites. 

Let's take a look one step at a time;

It takes too much time: fine then hire someone else to do it for you. 

I like to do business face to face: that is just fine, in the end you are correct, but in the beginning it starts with finding that client on a social media site. 

You can't make a "real" connection on social media: That is just totally not true. I don't even think I will mention this further. 

I don't understand how it all works: as I said earlier, then hire somebody. 

In the end the fact remains, social media is here to stay, it is where the vast majority of the people are hanging out, so like it or not, that is where you need to be. If there are road blocks in your way, there are lots of people like myself out there to help, should you feel that need. But do not make the mistake of dismissing the awesome power that is Social Media.
