Preparing Children for a Move
Make their Transition a Positive One!

Yeah! your moving and your so excited! You've had a great
Real Estate Agent that has been wonderful and accommodating in every way!  Now how can you make your transition to Holladay, Draper, Sandy,South Jordan or Herriman a positive experience for your children? Here are some ideas to help their relocation go smoothly.

Inform them and get them involved!

Take the time to sit down as a family and  discuss the details of the move! Get a calender and highlight important dates such as the 'Moving Date' and the date to 'Start Packing!' Give them crayons, markers and stickers so they can decorate their boxes. Let them draw a picture of how they will arrange and decorate their new room!

Get information about their new school and community.

Collect information about their school and any extra curricular activities that they may be interested in. List any theaters, parks, libraries or sports that their new community has to offer.

Help them feel comfortable with their new surroundings.

Take pictures or videos of the new home and town so they have an idea of what to expect! Also let them take pictures or videos of their old home so they have happy, comforting memories to take with them.  it is also a fun thing to have and look back on in years to come.

Make a party out of it!

Every one loves an excuse to throw a party! Let your children help plan a going-away party! Buy a T-shirt, stuffed animal or notebook for everyone to sign and leave a note on. Give party bags with self addressed stamped cards for their friends to send letters too.

Keep family traditions and start new ones!

Consistency is so important! If you have spaghetti on Tuesdays or go for family walks on Wednesdays stick to it even throughout the busy moving and unpacking stages.  Also think of a new tradition to start that will give your children something fun to associate with their new home.

STAY POSITIVE!!

This is the first and far-most important thing you can do! The attitude you exhibit effects your children. You are their example.  If you are happy and positive about things they will be to!
