Are You Ready for Wikipedia's Blackout?  I'm Not

I must admit I was surprised by Tammy Emineth's post.  I had no clue anything was going on also I wasn't aware Wikipedia allows us to use their information without penalty. Please read the below and leave your comments on Tammy's page.  I am disabling comments on my page.

While it's not good SEO to copy word for word on Wikipedia, I assume most of us use it to gather information and statistics on articles and posts that we use.

I use it quite frequently since I write for a variety of places all over the country and since I don't actually live there I need to know all I can about an area. Well, over the next day or so Wikipedia is staging a protest. A blackout of their English sites to protest "against proposed legislation in the United States—the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate—that, if passed, would seriously damage the free and open Internet, including Wikipedia."  Read more about this here

I love what Sue Gardner, Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director says "We think everyone should have access to educational material on a wide range of subjects, even if they can’t pay for it."

How do you feel about this? Wikipedia allows you to copy and paste their information and photos directly into whatever you want without harm. Now it won't do your SEO any good since it is duplicate content but you still have the right to do this without penalty from the law.

I will miss Wikipedia even just for 24 hours because I use it as well as dozens of other sources to culminate a wealth of knowledge for articles and posts. But I stand behind them and support them knowing that this information should be free for all.
