Meet-up or Raincamp, why can’t we combine them?

Last year I went and spoke at Raincamp Seattle and then was also co-hosted the Portland meet-up. Now, the meet-up was nice, it gave me a chance to finally meet some of my fellow Rainers that prior to then I had only had a chance to talk with on the phone or via email.

raincamp

But, Raincamp on the other hand not only got me in contact with some great Rainers, it also gave me the chance to learn some new technology from fellow Rainers and other internet experts. But, Raincamps came to a halt in 2011 because of the cost of the events to put on.

But, what if we were to have our own local Raincamps once or twice a year where top bloggers get together and share new ideas while bigger companies come in and share their new technology with the top agents in the area.

I know for sure I would be willing to help host an event like that here in Oregon and with the help of some of my fellow Rainers, I think we could do this in other areas of the county. So, if you are on board and think this is something you would like to do in your area.

Tell me and I’m going to try to organize it with some top technology companies and see if we can get them to come to our local events. Even though they won’t get as many as attendees as say a Seattle Raincamp, they certainly would get more than they have without having them like they are planning to do now.

That would be interesting. The idea of Skye or Join.me as a conference call or Webinar would also work via apps on the iPad at the Meet Ups.

Sounds like you have something cooking now Todd.  I would be happy to attend a Rain Camp near the Albuquerque area.  Maybe sooner than later.

Hi Todd,

You are on to something!

I knew the raincamps might quickly run their course, so I went to three of them, and benefitted from each one. (And got to meet you in Seattle)

You would have my support for a Pacific Northwest event!

I think it's a great idea and I mentioned an ARup, but never heard back from AR. I noticed there are some Members that would be a great asset to AR, but they don't pay attention to those.... Instead, they hear others that don't have no basis or experience as those of us in the industry 20 years... Don't get it!

Maybe, I am just seeing things.... That's a possibility, but regardless I LIKE YOUR IDEA! SUGGEST>>>

Todd,

Great idea.  I do understand why they stopped them, but it was a fabulous session.

All the best, Michelle

Thats a great idea, I think there has been a gap since the loss of raincamps, While I understand the need to stop lossing money, I also love that you are looking for a way to continue the value that raincamps brought, Good job my friend

Todd, That is an interesting idea!  This is something that we may have to look into doing!  We would probably have to combine with Las Vegas or something!  Good thought Todd, something we may have to explore!

Well, I certainly hope this comes to pass, I have some ideas that I would love to teach, but it isn't something that can really be done online. That is actually why I started a Mastermind group in the Portland area.

Todd~I would be willing to help from my neck-of-the-woods, since we've already surpassed our first goal of co-hosting a MeetUp. I can make phone calls and e-mails happen. I spoke with Susan Harding about the MasterMind Group--sure would love an invitation to THAT. (hint hint)

Right now, we are socked in with about 2' of snow. No power, but I have a generator. We won't have electricity for a few days is what the electric co. has told us and Vernonia is declaring a state of emergency. Trees down, heavy winds/rain coming....similar to 2007.

I think this idea is a home run! I would love to attend a Rain Camp / Meetup! Count me in on that one. I ran out of SUGGESTs already today, so I will be back after MIDNIGHT tonight! LOL!

Gayle, we had four inches of snow when I went to bed last night at midnight, but by morning the rain had taken all of it except about a 1/2 inch and now it is all gone! I hope you get your power back soon, that generator certainly doesn't run itself for free.

Susan has been to one of our Mastermind meetings, but you are all welcome to come to the next one. I've already got our first two technology people signed on for a Raincamp if we do have one.

Hey Todd.  This is a great idea.  here are a few builds/sub ideas.

1.  It can definitely be done informally.  After raincamp last year, 4 of us got together for a whole afternoon to share ideas...we each "taught" an idea and brought a biz idea we wanted help with. It was super productive.  we are trying to organize another but holidays/weather have gotten in the way, but we will do again - maybe 6 of us.

2.  Alternatively, if your idea is too challenging to set up, another way to implement is to have the local meet ups hosted somewhere (e.g. in one of the real estate offices) and listen to rain camp together; use breaks to socialize and add on a hour for sharing where local top bloggers/experts share ideas (maybe a round table discussion).

OK, I'm starting one here in Portland on my own and I already have some tech companies aboard to help with the costs and some classes.
