The bounteous, beautiful, bubbly, blog goddess Mary McKnight posted today that she'd been "memed"

What the heck is a "meme"? We'll let Mary explain. She's good:

==============

I was memed this morning by my friend and competitor, Paul Chaney of Blogging Systems. For those of you that don’t know what a meme is: It’s a thought stream carried from one person to another, or, to be more precise, a “unit of cultural information transferable from one mind to the other,” so says Wikipedia. Basically, it’s the blogging equivalent of a chain letter.  The cool thing about blogging is that the meme can be tracked. Entire websites are devoted to doing just that. Some memes, however, are deliberate…sort of a social game to build community and engender relationships. (Jay's emphasis)

==============

Judging by the comments on Mary's post, there's a lot of us out there who think this is cool.

So why not an AR meme fest? It'd be a great way to get to know each other better.

How do you do it?

It's EASY. Email THREE Active Rainers (the easiest way is just click the "email me" link under their picture. Or go to their AR profile and click on the link by "Email") Put "YOU'VE BEEN AR MEMED!" in the subject line and copy this into the body of the email:

===========

Greetings! You've just been MEMED on Active Rain!

"WHAT?" you say? Go to this post:

http://activerain.com/blogsview/27305/The-First-ActiveRain-Meme

and make a comment telling us "What 5 Things You don’t Know About Me". OR, put it on your "other blog", but please put a link to it in the comments of the AR Meme Post (link just above here).

Then contact 3 other Active Rainers and meme them!

Just do it. It's fun!

===========

Once you pick your three meme victims, please come back to this post and put the victims names in a comment. I'll compile them as frequently as possible to avoid the same people getting memed more than once. We'll see how it goes. I'll put a post on my other blog in a couple of days, with links to those memed.

This post is "public" so keep it clean people!

UPDATED: Please post the five things about you as a comment here, or post it on your "other blog" and put a link to that in the comments here. Or make a separate AR blog post like Maureen did , and link it here. Whatever.

Aren't you supposed to tell us 5 things about you to get the ball rolling?

Actually Mo, I memed 6 (just to get things rolling.)

And I'll tell my five things as soon as someone memes me!

5 things... (more details on my blog)

1.  Classically trained pianist and vocalist.

2.  Was the only (at the time) woman sales rep for Husqvarna (yes, i sold chainsaws!)

3.  Certified OSHA logging safety instructor.

4.  Paid for college by bartending.

5.  Certified USSSA umpire.

I hit up Linda Davis, Bob Pavey, Jim Lee!

Are we supposed to post the 5 in a comment after your post or in our own blogs?

Thanks Leigh! You don't look like a chainsaw salesperson (not that I really know what a chainsaw salesperson should look like. But I'm picturing a big guy in a flannel shirt...)

You should make an MP3 file of you playing/singing and share it with us! I'd love to hear you!

I had a feeling Mo would tag me...

  1. I've jumped out of a perfectly good airplane 12 times. (I *highly* recommend it!)

  2. I taught my son to play Chess when he was three. By the time he was five, I couldn't beat him. I have two chess trophies. My son has over 100, including state and national level championships.

  3. My 13 year old daughter plays piano, clarinet and flute. She doesn't know it, but she's getting a saxophone for Christmas. I can't even play a kazoo.

  4. I had a 4.0 GPA in college.

  5. My Point 2 Agent web site is ranked #1 in the world out of 103,000+ Point 2 sites (at least for the moment)
I tagged several in the beginning. The running list is in the first comment.

I sincerely hope your 13 year old does not read AR.  Somehow I am sure she doesn't, though when I was that age I would have done anything to figure out what I was getting for xmas.

Your p2a ranking is impressive.  What is it based on?

My memette, Carole, is out showing and will be reporting in later this evening.   I have some more people I would love to tag.  Too bad I could only do 3.

MAUREEN WROTE: I have some more people I would love to tag.  Too bad I could only do 3.

Heck, I've never been a big fan of rules, tag as many as you want! That goes for anyone!

My daughter is too busy yapping on the phone and sending text messages to read anything I write. Though both her an my son did "hack" my other blog once. I think the fear of friends finding out she read Dads blog is enough to keep her away. How uncool would that be?

The P2A Performance Indicator is based on "on line effectiveness", whatever that means. No one knows for sure as they keep the calculations secret -- sorta like Google's SERP algorithms. They don't want people manipulating them. It appears to be based on listings "richness" (read text and photos), extent of customization, traffic, prospect generation... stuff like that. Doesn't really mean a whole lot, but I do use it in some marketing. Sellers like to hear "We are the #1 Point 2 site in the world". And, it sounds cool. Ratings are constantly changing, so that honor could disappear any minute.

Someone needs to tag Colleen Kulikowski and David Spencer....

21 Featured Posts

I am naming:

Kristal Kraft, Ann Cummings & Elaine Reese

1. I got my first real job at the age of 11 delivering Chinese food for a Rush street restaurant by bicycle (including in the snow) I always had a job after that.

2. While I was an only child for most of my life, I did get to spend a short period of time in a well to do family when my Mother married my best friends father (whose family owned a chain of hotels).... Unfortunately, shortly after that he was no longer my best friend... I moved out of the house 1 month after my 17th birthday. It's a good thing I was still working.

3. I have a fear of speaking in groups and frequently can get tongue tied... this would not normally be too bad but I will occasionally sit on panels or make presentations to large groups... it's gone from a major near-heart attack kind of overwhelming fear to a simple heart racing dumbstruck kind of fear. Some of you have been able to witness this... usually I muddle through.

4. I love to read. I'll read the self help books and how to's... but I really love to read novels... lot's of them, 1-2 per week... usually intrigue, mystery, action, political/legal/financial thrillers... in my younger, less busy days... I would read a book every 1-2 days.

5. At the age of 9, Bobby Schuller broke off pieces of chalk in the locker doors (where you could put a lock, if we were allowed) in the Hall at my elementary school... then told my fourth grade teacher (Mrs Falbo) that I did it. I had just (finally) earned the right to be a "door guard" and she took it away from me. I haven't trusted authority since. (not that I hold a grudge or anything)

Ok, I am going to add my 'stuff right to this blog post. Here goes:

1. When I was 11 I was the Secretary of the Vic Davalillo Fan Club. #25, centerfield, Cleveland Indians lol. I still remember his birthdate (July 31st). I was in charge that year of baking the cake; which I had never done; and I folded in the first third of the flour and forgot the last 2/3.  Luckily my mother made one quickly lolol.

2. I played the violin. I had perfect pitch so I hated how I sounded : -)  It's not like riding a bike, so I finally donated my violin to a music school a few years ago.

3. Took my first trip to England after High School; we did a summer program at Durham University. It was like dying and going to heaven. I won a debate (the total subject escapes me it was uh, a few years ago), but it was something about Parliamentary Government versus our own Three Branches. I lucked out and was chosen to represent the Brit side; my prize was a glass bottomed pewter mug and a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale.

4. I attended the first Farm Aid Concert in 1984 in Springfield Illinois. A friend had back stage passes which I 'borrowed ' for a few hours until they caught me. I was up on stage when Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson sat in front of me talking to each other like old friends. Now, these are two of my favorites, and I couldn't even get up the nerve to talk to them, even when they smiled at me (well, Dylan ALMOST smiled, you know how he is). lolol  Well what was I going to say? Hi, you guys are awesome? Like they never heard THAT before.

5. Not sure I have completely given up this dream yet, even at my age, but always wanted to own a baseball team; it just sounds like so much fun. And now that I think about it, if 'W' could do it, why not me?

I am tagging:

Brian Brady

Monika McGilicuddy

For Maureen:

  1. I'm really a shy person that tries very hard to compensate for this.
  2. I've traveled to most of the 48 states - thanks to my previous company.
  3. Like Leigh, I was the 1st woman to obtain a marketing mgmt position in a male-dominated industry. (Maybe we were at McCormick Place in August at the same time some year.)
  4. My 'now' natural hair color is white, but then you all suspected that! Previously, it was dark brown. Thank you Loreal.
  5. I used to be a Susie Homemaker when married. Sewed all my family's clothes. Kept the house really clean and baked several loaves of bread each week.

 For Angus:

  1. Took golf as a phys-ed course at OSU. Hit husband in the head with my driver - at the END of the swing. Broke his face, but got an 'A' in the course anyway. Signed up for Riflery the next quarter. We got a dissolution a few years later. Wonder why????
  2. Nearly killed Sasquatch when driving home one night from my daughter's home in the country.
  3. Have gotten out of speeding tickets by crying.
  4. My first car in high school was an old WWII jeep that I painted hot pink and put porta-walls on to make it look 'really, really cool'.
  5. Have had dogs ALL my life ... OK, OK ... that doesn't surprise anyone! But I needed just one more.

Jay & Francy, I know this must be unreal to try and take care of but I thought I would just share with you that the list that you have above sometimes has DONE and it makes some of us think that it means that those names have been tagged. But I noticed that there are a lot of names on the list that don't show DONE even though they have already been selected and tagged. Just a little confusing and possibly meaning that a person is tagged more than once, twice, etc.

Jay - this was SO MUCH FUN!!  I love reading all these things about the people we've been conversing here with on Active Rain.  And I'm glad some people have linked their MEME posts here - it makes it alot easier to find those posts, if the 5 things were written here in their comments.  Great fun!

Here's mine, in case it was missed - MEMED!!

Thanks Jay for bringing this to AR, and to Moo, who memed me!  Now, I'm waiting for those I tagged to get their 5 things together to share with all of us....... come on, you know who you are!!

Linda - that is SO cool!!!  I think the public is finding us here on AR alot more than some people think!  I did a post on Wreaths Across America, where i mentioned the Patriot Guard Riders, and a member of the Mississippi Patriot Guard Riders found my post on Google and stopped by my post and left a great comment.

Gotta love the power of Active Rain for sure!!

  3. Leanne Paynter

The five things

  1. I've been a surgical transcriptionist at Georgetown University in DC for 12 years.
  2. I told my husband when we started going together that I was very shy. He pulled my string and I haven't been quiet since!
  3. I do feel shy until I know them and don't love public speaking (which is why I could never be a real estate professional).
  4. I can play chess (I only mention that because my husband just found out yesterday). That reminds me: We just saw a chess game yesterday which has the moves on the pieces, for those of you who want to learn!
  5. I'm a proud mom 'n' grandmother.

>poof< and I'm back!   fun post Jay. I enjoy finding out about others, and do so slowly with whatever they give up. But this makes it easy. I hope the long list at the top will be updated (eventually) with the links to each one, so we can just go on down the line.who are you? list your 5 things

I was MEMED by Broker Bryant.  Good thing I'm way shorter BB, your headbutts would just fly right over me while I run under your legs.!!  haha just kidding.. I kid you, I kid. I get the feeling that you wouldn't hurt a fly.

So my post is over here.. and I dont have anyone to MEMED! the folks I know already got it.. I'll have to search a few out and come back later to post their names.

(LATER): Hey, everyone I know is tagged already.. My nominations for tagging would be: Broker Bryant, The Lovely Wife and George Souto. everyone else is tagged!

Belinda Garza

My meme.

Edited due to forgetting to post my 5 things here as well as on my blog.

  1. My house is pretty much floor to ceiling books.  With boxes of more books in the attic.  And in the storage locker.  My husband and I, when we got married almost 35 years ago, each brought 19 boxes of paperbacks to the marriage.  They breed, you know. ;-)
  2. I'm a fourth-generation Texan through all four grandparents (we were here before it was Texas), and qualify for the Daughters of the Republic of Texas via San Jacinto, Daughters of the Confederacy, and the DAR through a horse.
  3. I collect quilts, Amish by preference (love the vibrant colors!), and have a beautiful Hmong/Amish collaboration quilt in my collection.
  4. I've been bellydancing (amateur, not professional) for about 30 years now, off and on.
  5. I make a mean Margarita and am something of a Margarita purist (3 parts Tequilla, Patron Silver by choice; 1 part Cointreau; 1 part fresh-squeezed lime juice) and get unreasonably incensed as fruit 'ritas - great drinks, call 'em something else! ;-)

What can Jay possibly do to follow up 428 comments in a day? ... Start an AR meme (with credit to Mary McKnight also) that will probably grow to well beyond 428 Rainers by the end of the year! Both of these are great examples of how quickly one blogger can generate a huge positive, viral impact in the blogosphere. Thanks, Jay!

The Lovely Wife here aka TLW...ROAR!

Okay then. I have been Memed by Jay Thompson, Gena Riede and Christine Forgione.

1. I am married to "The Son Of A Preacher Man"...(Broker Bryant) Hubba! Bubba!

2. I found my destiny in life by closing my eyes and dropping my finger on a map of Florida. This is how and where I found "The Son Of A Preacher Man"...(Broker Bryant) Hubba! Bubba!

3. I love Southern Gentlemen who refer to themselves as Rednecks. Call each other Bubba. And can knock a door off it's hinges with the use of their head. I am amused by this. Very Amused. :) Hubba! Bubba!

4. I serve "The Son Of A Preacher Man" (Broker Bryant) breakfast in bed everyday and I enjoy the fact that this makes him a very happy man. :) I have unlimited shopping privileges as a result of this. :) Hubba! Bubba!

5. I hate cooking. But, I will gladly change the oil in your car. I survived raising identical twin boys. Our boys are now 30 and they taught me how to change the oil in a car and how to use my guns. BAM :) They have also given "The Son Of A Preacher Man" (Broker Bryant) and I 5 Grandchildren ages 6 weeks through 10 years. :)

I am tagging Jeff Turner, Rich Kruse, Ron Robinson, Jeff Dowler, Randy Prothero, Ken Smith  and Dave Rosenmarkle.

That's one Rain Gentlemen friend for every day of the week. Could "The Lovely Wife" of "The Preacher's Son" (Broker Bryant) ask for much more? Nope.

This is great (and more work than I thought it would be)

Just a little clarification... the first comment in this blog contains a list of all those that have been "tagged". Please try to review the list before you tag someone. Don't tag someone already listed. I'm eliminating duplicates when I see them, but I will miss some. (I'll try to alphabetize the list later if I can get to it. No promises though!)

If there is a "Done!" link next to a name, that means they've completed their list of 5 things and the Done! link will take you to their list.

Hey, BB is 6'2" and 255.  I'm 6'0" and 230. That's close enough.  I've got a mean headbutt too.

I'm also a Son of a Preacher Man!

My family is from Tennessee. I'm a redneck southern gentleman and all my friends are called Bubba!

Wow, I go away for a day and get memed twice!  Just when I thought the rain was letting up!

I'm tagging:

Mitchell Hall

Val Allocco

My responses are here!

1.  I was home schooled for most of my primary shcool education- 3rd through 8th grade.
2.  I used to compete as an ice skater, and later taught figure skating to Neil Bush's children (President Bush's neice and nephew).
3.  I was accpeted into medical school and was planning on going right after I took a year off to 'recuperate' from undergrad.  It never happend.  I moved to England instead to start my own business selling machinery into the packaging industry.
4.  I almost married my high school sweetheart when I was 22 years old.  We had been together over 7 years at that point.  About 1 month before the wedding I freaked and backed out.  The invitations had been sent, deposits paid.  At the time it was traumatic, but now all I can say is PHEW!  My parents were very understanding and supportive: they said better to cancel a wedding than to get a divorce later; HOW TRUE!  The funny thing is that I still ended up getting married twice!  My husband is British, so we got married (on paper) the 10th of Feb. 2003 to speed the immigration process, and the second time (the ceremony) on the 25th of May 2003.
5.  My second daughter Eloise was born at home (with the aid of a midwife) after 5 hours of labor.  I'm a pretty 'crunchy' mom, so experiencing natural childbirth was important to me.  I found it to be both a wonderful and empowering experience (with both my girls!)

So both TLW and KK memed me.

Here are 5 things about me:

1. Still play hockey twice per week.

2. While a high honors student in high school, I only have three credit hours completed in college (plus the 9 hours I already had from classes I took in high school). Liked to party a little to hard.

3. Was a financial controller for a public company at the age of 21. Also was acting CFO and took care of multiple mergers and private stock offering.

4. Met my wife at her senior prom, a good friend of ours broke up with her boyfriend 2 weeks before their prom. She called me upset and I offered to go with her and she took me up on it. Our friend had made a point of not letting Star and I meet for at least 3 years before that. We had asked to be set up multiple times, but our friend wouldn't do it. We ended up hitting it off instantly.

5. Some already know this, but I have to add it. I have the cutest little girl in the world, Emma Rose Smith just turned one at the end of last month. In case you can't tell that is a picture of her to the right.

Bonus - I owned my first house 17 days after I turned 20 and my first 6 unit rental by 21.

I will have to check over the list to see who I will meme, but the Bears game is about to start so will have to get back to you on that.

Uh! Oh! Another "Son Of A Preacher Man"...Hubba! Bubba! That's right up my Cat Alley. :) Got any dents on your forhead? Wink. Wink.

Sorry about the delay. We have 4 of those Grand kids arriving 4 days earlier than planned. I have to pack pretty much everything I own in boxes to keep 2 of the toddlers from destroying or eating my Antiques. LOL. I am waaaay so not prepared for an early arrival. This is keeping me away from my virtual world.

Now about your offer to drop my Bubba Broker. He told me to tell you that you could borrow me (Hubba! Bubba!) if you make all his Mortgage payments next month. How's that for a Redneck response to your offer? LOL. He can't help it. He's a Bubba Broker, everything's negotiable man. Wink. Wink. :)

OK... TLW & Maureen Francis told me I had to do this!  So here are five things you all may not know about me..

1. I was born in Grafton, WV. Yes, that makes me a hillbilly. I'm very proud of it. We spend one month a year on our land there!

2. I won a national "preacher boy" competition in High School. When I went off to college, my goal was to be a pastor. That never happened.

3. I was an All-Around Gymnast and Coached Women's AAU gymnastics while in College. I loved gymnastics.

4. I was almost kicked out of my conservative college for putting a severed Pig's Head on the thrid floor drinking fountain of the Freshman men's dorm. I was my Freshman Class President. As such, as a Sophmore I was also the leader of the freshman welcome committee. My idea of a welcome was taking a pigs head from the Seminary Pig Roast and using it in ways I probably shouldn't have. Needless to say, the freshman boy there for his first night away from home who was screaming at the top of his lungs after trying to take a drink in the pitch black middle of the night was not very happy about my little prank. Nor was the Freshman girl who found the second head prying into the lounge window of her dorm the following morning.

5. I was accepted to Harvard to work on a second Masters and awarded a teaching fellowship - and turned it down. Explaining that would require a long, interesting but sad & stupid story that I won't tell right now. Had I accepted, I wouldn't have 6 beautiful children or the amazing wife I have now. Suffice it to say, it was the right decision.

I am now tagging Bill Collins, Tom Perone and Chasity Lousteau!

Whew, this thing is spiraling out of control!  I've noticed several blogs out there with people's lists, and they never came back here to let us know the link. I link them when I find them, but I'm sure there are more out there. I've even seen people's meme lists in comments of other posts.

Tonight's Poker Night, so this will probably be my last update for the evening.

And I'm going to surrender at Midnight tonight! I can't keep up any more, and need to work on my Yankee Blog Swap post tomorrow. That doesn't mean the show can't go on! All we need is another volunteer to continue the task of listing names and linking to lists. Just start another comment and keep coming back (over and over and over) to edit it. At some point I can copy/paste it into the original comment.

Who wants to volunteer?

I was MEMED by Marci Toliver!

1.  Saw Elvis in concert in 1971....Tiny Tim sat behind me.

2.  My best friend intended to coerce me into a blind date with a Georgia boy who was in town for the weekend only to find out I was out of town at the time so she strong armed my younger sister into going out with him.  A year and a half later, he was in town again and she tricked me into going out with him by telling me we were going Christmas shopping and it wasn't until she arrived at my house that I found out that I was going on a date with that same boy----we have been married 32 years!  (My match-making friend has been married and divorced 5 times....she now wishes she had kept him for herself)

3.  Born and raised in Florida...moved to Georgia....then to Arizona....then to California....then all the way back across the country to Virginia....and then back down to Florida....so I have come full circle.

4. Lived in Virginia for 13 years and never had the opportunity to visit Williamsburg...but, while living there, visited Hawaii 5 times!

5. I am married to my own Robert Kincaid.  I have a beautiful daughter named Meredith who just graduated from college (yesterday), a black cat named Chloe, and a black Pekingese named Sweetie.  I have two sisters: Sandy (dated my husband before I did) and Peggy Sue (named after the Buddy Holly song)

Sheesh!  This Mo has got some big mo going on right now!  Recently tagged, I submit my meme post here.  Here's the shortened post for your reading enjoyment:

  1. Former Powers of Evil Used for Good - In one of my previous lives (before real estate) I managed three simultaneous races for state representative in SE Michigan, worked in a state senator's office and the governor's office.  Yes, my name is Todd and I am a former political hack.
  2. Once Thought I Was Smart - Spent two years at U of M - Dearborn studying Mechanical Engineering.  Ended up with a PoliSci major and Business Minor.
  3. Wineaux - Drink, appreciate and make wine with my in-laws every September.  Our 2004 and 2005 Cabernets were/are outstanding.  Anyone want to send me a 2000 Ch. Margaux?
  4. Love Being A Father! - Not just written for the sake of My Lovely Wife (MLW).  That's My Boy is 2 and a half and Atta Boy is four and half months old.  I never thought being a daddy would be this much fun!  The laughter alone is worth its weight in diapers.
  5. Married Up - The only thing against MLW is that she married me...it shows a possible lack of judgement!  In fact, celebrating seven great years this week.

My name is Hurd, Barry Hurd.

1- As a kid I actually liked James Bond for an unusual reason. My Father, Mother, and Grandmother were all agents for the National Security Agency. (Somehow it was only fate that I ended up a geeky computer kinda guy)

2- I spent five months living in a tent as a camp instructor and mountaineer. It was a lovely 10x10 canvas military tent with no power or running water.

3- I have written articles on almost every topic imaginable- from online gaming, poetry, recruiting, tourism, biker events, and even a few fiction pieces.

4- Everyone of my siblings (three brothers and one sister) has the middle name Lynn. This is a traditional family way of making sure the daughter keeps the family name when she is married.

5- I am now 6'3 and 200 lbs and work out on a regular basis. At one point in time I was 340 lbs.  If only I had a contract with Subway, I'd be rich. ;)

My closing statement is that I can't believe my friend and coworker Paul Chaney infected the real estate realm with this! I thought the industry had safely evaded the crisis.... he just had to go and push the big red button.

You can read my five here. If you look down toward the bottom of the post, you'll see I memed Mary McKnight. She, in turn, started the meme within the real estate blog community. Wow! Look what has happened as a result. Kudos also go to internet marketing consultant Toby Bloomberg, who memed me. This particular meme has crossed all kinds of niches with the blogosphere. Five realtively "safe" things people on AR don't know about me are:

  1. I am a classically trained performance vocalist and recently had the pleasure of performing the first two arias of The Messiah at a Christmas concert.

  1. Have always been a chronic volunteer. Over the last 35 years, was afforded many opportunities to e of service to my community. One that stands out most was to help organize, staff and run a shelter for the homeless for a period of five months.

  1. When I was a younger fellow and didn’t know I should be nervous, I was an Air Traffic Control Tower Supervisor while in the Navy. Biggest claim to fame was to serve as Tower Coordinator for a Blue Angels Air Show.

  1. At age 11, dumber the dumb, road down the middle of a two-lane highway, sitting sideways on the bar in front of the seat with no-hands exactly when two tractor trailer trucks passed on each side of me.

  1. Favorite desserts are (1) warm homemade apple dumplings w/vanilla ice cream and (2) tapioca pudding.

Memed by Maureen McCabe, here's 5:

1) Out of our 4 pets, I do have a favorite.

2) I'm a very good dancer, danced on pointe in younger life, and turned down an offer to go pro.

3) I love, love, LOVE Indian food.

4) I'm a decorative artist, and a sucker for lost causes. I have been known to pull furniture out of a trash heap and give it a new and better life.

5) Rodents give me the heebie jeebies- even tree rats.

Teresa: Tree rats? Gosh I hope you mean squirrels or please keep them in Dayton.... the idea of rats in trees will keep me out of the parks.

What's the  best Indian food place in the Dayton area?  I was not into Indian food when I lived in Dayton.  Heck I was not into Indian food three years ago.  Now I love it.  My favorite place just closed.  Indian restaurants in Columbus seem relatively expensive compared to other cities and we have so much competition in restuarants here, it seems.

Here it is:

Okay let me try this MeMe stuff, whatever that is. Hmmm let’s see five things that the real estate community doesn't know about me. That’s tough, but I'll give it a shot.

1. I was born and raised in Chicago. I transferred to Miami with my job. Although I miss   Chicago, Miami has  grown on me. What's there not to like about Miami? I am a huge Chicago White Sox fan and a huge Chicago Bears fan.

2. I have worked in the airline industry for close to 18 years. With all the downsizing and contracting out of work I decided to try my hand at real estate. I haven't fully left my airline career behind me because my youngest son is Autistic and I need to keep the health benefits. This really makes it hard to get my real estate career on track. It's very difficult to manage two full-time careers.

3. I have four sons, two teenage sons in Chicago (from my first marriage) and two elementary school boys here in Miami. I have a beautiful wife who has often been said to look a lot like Jennifer López. I think I’m a pretty lucky guy to be married to a superstar.

4.Ever since I was 23 years old I have been trying to start my own business. I have tried everything from selling beepers, life insurance and mortgages to my current venture real estate. There's this dream to be successful that keeps me going every day.

5. I can fix just about anything, if I haven't done it before I research and read up on the subject attempt it at least once.  My most recent accomplishment was fixing my big-screen TV.  I figured I'd look up what I needed to do on the Internet and give it a shot. It was going to cost close to $400 to fix and if I spent a hundred on manuals and parts I could save myself $300, if not I needed to get a new TV anyway as it wasn't worth fixing. It worked out and my TV is better than new!

Theresa Lussier, Marguerite Crespillo, & Tommie W. Gibson

Shoot, sorry Theresa

Well, it was inevitable that we would get meme'd.  So here goes the five things:

Since we are a H&W Team, we'll do this as diplomatically as possible:

1.  Bob has been a drummer all his life and continues to play whenever possible. Prefers Rock.

2.  Lisa has been a singer all of her life and continues to sing whenever possible.  Prefers Ballads & Standards.

3. Bob and Lisa knew each other in High School but didn't date until they met up again almost 30 years later and then were married shortly after.

4. Bob proposed to Lisa on the stage of the newly renovated Paramount Theatre stage at Madison Square Garden in NYC while playing in a band that was opening for Blood, Sweat & Tears.

5. Lisa's terrible fear of flying and heights keeps them pretty well grounded much to Bob's dismay.

Ok - Im a bit slow to respond on this one, but here goes.  In response to the Meme from Maureen, for Jays next "game" here are the 5 odd things about myself.

•1)       I've lived in: Beaverton Oregon, San Diego CA, Chicago Il, Kansas City Mo, Lawrence and Shawnee Kansas all in the last 10 years. (they keep kicking me out of nice towns!)

•2)       I race Sailboats (in Kansas! - no not in a field, in Perry Lake) For you boat people, I race a J-24 J-24

and a C-Scow. For you non Boat people, a sailboat is something that holds beers and people on water that does not use much gas.

•3)       I enjoy Skiing in Colorado, typically smile, and wear a baseball hat and glasses! (and am right now!) Maureen- that should clear it up right?

•4)       I love Fried Tacos. But not the ones from the Bell that sicken people.

•5)       I work for a National Real Estate Focused internet company, and I live in Kansas and Sail- If that doesn't shatter your perception of Dorothy and Toto, I don't know what will.

Okay Leigh, here you go!

1) I trained with the US Equestrian Team throughout high school until falling out of favor with my mother by choosing college (boys) over horses (work).  I was a bit older before I realized you can have both.  My mom and I made up and now she is one of my favorite people.

2) I used to haul hay every summer.  I lived on a working farm growing up and hated the days we had to haul hay.  The only saving grace was the high schools boys my dad hired to help us!  I also know how to run a combine and just about every other piece of farm equipment.

3) I have my degree in English and Theatre.  I did several internships in NY off broadway before my graduation.  There is no where else I am as comfortable as I am on stage.

 4) People ask me where I got my children from.  My husband is a beautiful Filipino man and my children look exactly like him.  I have had people ask me where I got my daughter. Womb! And if I "nanny full time for these kids."  I tell people that I am full-time for "these kids" and I enjoy sleeping with their father!

5) In my former life at First Union Nat'l Bank, I got paid to travel to cities all over the world and scout out what extracurricular activities there were to do.  Restaurants, theatre, clubs, tours, attractions, etc.  I miss that job.  That was in the good ole days before layoffs and downsizing.

Oh, I feel so dull.  I will have to shake it up over the next five or ten years and do this again. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

I am tagging Ino Daffin, Darrell Thomas, and  Sandra Thomas.

Ok, Ms. Rice tagged me so here are the five things.

  1. Debated for over 8 years. In this time I went to Nationals and World Debate Championship in Athens Greece.
  2. Owned my first Business at the age of 16. Sine then I have worked for my self in many different businesses and love it.
  3. I had 6 investment properties. I really have liked real estate since I was 15 and saw the value in it.  I have looked at every so called guru and true mentor out there.  I have learned a lot and like helping people get into real estate investing.
  4. I teach classes. One of my degrees is in education and I still teach when ever I can.  I believe that we need to teach people to fish, hunt, sew, swim, or whatever it is that they can do so they can rely on our creator and themselves.
  5. I love to try new things. If it was not for trying new things in my life I would not be who I am today.  This is from the opera to eating some weird things.  I will do almost anything once.

Ok, there is my five. Now I am going to find three and tag them.  This was a great idea.

Uh, oh.......I've been MEMED!

What five things does the active rain world want to know about me?

1)  I may be blond, but I do have a 3.7 GPA and would prefer to be an archeologist or geologist rather than a Realtor!

2)  I AM THE greatest Mom in the world....at least one beautiful son thinks so!

3)  I love scuba diving even though it terrifies me tremendously!

4)  Most people don't know that I have traveled to Pompeii, Tunisia and Bahrain!

5)  One of my "coolest" moments was catching a four foot long shark last year...awesome!

The 5 things about me no one should know about me ran through my mind at first, and then about 10 minutes later I finally came up with a couple of things maybe I could tell you all.

  1. I went to real estate school with my sister in 1979 and flunked it miserably. When the instructor said "Ok, now take that number and put it into memory in your calculator, then enter this number and add it to your memory in the calculator, then......." that is where he lost me! I folded my book and told my sister I will be waiting outside for her. She went on to be one of the top selling agents in Fresno. I knew then and there that I was totally right brained!
  2. I am the oldest of 8 children.
  3. I used to cut high school and race all the boys in my boyfriends 409 (425 hp) and win...oh, the bad part was I didn't have a drivers license. (This is the stuff I can tell!)
  4. I am an original VALLEY GIRL from the San Fernando Valley in CA
  5. I am really good at reading palms.

I have mime'd Diane Rice, Shari George, and Blanca Cholevczynski...give it up girls!

Okay, my turn... MEME ... ME (reminds me of Agent Smith from The Matrix)

1.  Despite the fact that I've worked side-by-side with my husband the TV & Film Editor for the better part of 30-years, I do not have the patience to watch a :30 TV commercial. But I will notice one of our spots on the air as the TiVO zips past it!

2.  I cannot send a preprinted personalized Christmas card without writing a personal note to the recipient; hence, I haven't kept up with my blogging lately.

3.  My mother was a terrific cook, I didn't inherit that gene --- my daughter seems to think that it might skip a generation since she loves to cook!  I am not any good at it and I don't enjoy cooking.  Thankfully my husband likes preparing food, he makes the BEST Pancakes, without him I'd starve to death!

4.  I am a really good student --- always have been and still am.  It is a little embarassing though --- especially when I ace a class that others have trouble with.  I got the highest grade in my ABR class, passed the RE school test with a 97, passed GRI I with a high score even though I wasn't at every class... I am just a good student.

5.  I think this MEME thing is a lot of work but it is interesting to learn these tidbits of info about the folks we run around in the puddle with!  Thank you, Jay, for starting and tracking all this.

some of you.... you should do a blog on your meme, so we can comment on them.  It will open things up.  Just my opinion. But I don't want to comment on here, because you might never see those comments.

Again... just some FYI

I'm not sure I'm doing this right, so someone correct me if I'm doing it wrong.  :)

Five Things You May Not Know About Me:

1.  I am the second of six children.

2.  My deceased dog, Bob Barker, is the best friend I've ever had and I miss him terribly.

3.  I accepted the responsibility of helping raise Yann's teenagers, which was a far more daunting task that I ever could have imagined.

4.  I am a fiercely loyal and devoted friend and will walk through fire for the good people in my life.

5.  I think 2007 is going to be a GREAT year.

Woo Hoo!

Well, as the holiday excitement is dying down, I am finally able to respond to Jeff Bellonger tagging me.

 5 Things about me:

  1. I served in the Army during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.  When Iraq invaded Kuwait, I watched CNN for 3 days straight.  At that point, it looked like it would develop into WWIII, and I thought to myself, all the men in my family have served during time of war (WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam) so this must be my time to do my duty.  I enlisted 3 days after Iraq invaded Kuwait.  Infantry.
  2. I was discharged 2 years later after an injury left me unable to march, run or jump (things kind of  required for a foot soldier)  I had been hit in the knee by an anti-tank missle. (But that is a subject for an entirely different blog)
  3. My wife and I got engaged about three hours after we met.  We recently celebrated our 12th anniversary.
  4. When I open a can of cashews, I cant stop eating until my fingers are at least 2 knuckles deep into the can without touching any nuts.
  5. I love Sudoku puzzles -- the really challenging ones (16x16) especially.

I will decline to tag 3 people.  Call me a party pooper, but I swore to myself quite some time ago that I would never spread a chain letter, and I view this a chain letter, although a relatively harmless one I admit.  Nevertheless, I am not going to break my vow.  I hope you all can respect my position.

Happy Holidays, all!

OK, I guess I was memed by Sharon Simms a few weeks ago so this is long overdue.

1. I have three girls, Coral 14, Willow, and Iris 2 years old. I love to spend time with them. Coral is very involved in an ancient Chinese game called GO. Willow is involved in Soccer and Tae Kwon Do and Iris just likes hanging out with me :) I took my real estate exam (and passed) while I was 9 months pregnant. I have been married for 7 years to my wonderful husband, Tony. We got married on my grandmothers birthday, Nov.19, 1999. Did you know the November 19, 1999 was the last date you will see made up of all odd numbers in your lifetime? The next date of all odd number will be the year 3111!

2. I was born in Florida and have never lived anywhere else. A native Floridian! I have lived in almost every city in southwest Florida. I have traveled all over the world but I've only lived in Florida. Also, I've never seen snow.

3. I hate cooking. My husband does all of the cooking. I think I just don't have the patience to wait for something to cook. I hate alligators, needles and earwigs (ya now, those things that look like a centipede). I think the name Earwig kinda freaks me out!

4. I used to work in the county jail, until I got pregnant with my second child. I've also worked as a webpage designer and for a Montessori school.

5. I love dogs! And I am a huge supporter of the Charlotte County Animal Shelter.

I'll have to figure out who still needs to be memed!

Oh, Oh - Sheron tagged me and now I have to play - hope I follow the rules.  Let's see - I am supposed to tell you 5 things you didn't know about me and then tag 3 other people on AR.  I believe we are also supposed to link this to http://activerain.com/blogsview/27305/The-First-ActiveRain-Meme, but I am not sure I know how, so forgive me if I screw up....

 Here it goes:

1. I was born in Moscow, USSR and grew up without a radio, television or telephone, until the age of 14 when we immigrated to Montreal, Canada and I have lived here ever since.

2. My parents were (and still are) avid hikers, so they dragged me everwhere they went mountaneering.  As a matter if fact, around 1970 (shows my age, sorry) I was presented with a medal for being the youngest child to climb the glacier at Mount Elbrus (Caucasian mountains).

3. I did some modeling work around 1984 (photographs), but my parents were NOT pleased as they did not think  it was a worthwhile career choice and I was told that if I wanted to do the modeling seriously, I would do better in Europe, so it did not last....

4.  I love to dance latin dance and have been taking classes on and off - salsa, merengue and bachata.  Progress is slow, but it's great exercice and it makes me forget all my troubles - especially in the cold of Montreal winter. Eventually, I hope to move on to tango...Love anything latin, actually..(LOL)

5. Speaking of exercice, I practice Bikram Yoga, which is HOT yoga and originated in California (Sheron should know).  It's a series of 26 postures performed in s heated studio (around 90F), takes 90 minutes and is very phyysically cahllenging but amazing for the body and soul.

Now, for the people I would like to tag:  Debra Gould, Mary Seferian and Erik Shatilla (my realtor friend from the IBM days).

Thanx.

I have been meme's Twice this past week. I had it all written  in draft and was ready to post the longest post of my career in blogging. Now that I have read all the short answers , I must reconsider and start over. Way way way too much information. Feel  a little  foolish for taking it so literally. Well just a lttile actually. Too tired tonight to re-do but it will be redone.

Karen Otto has tagged me - so now it is my turn:

Here are 5 things AR doesn't know about me:

  1. I grew up in Central California and then moved to Tennessee when I met my husband almost 10 years ago.
  2. When I was pregnant with my daughter I craved fish tacos and ate them at least 3 times a week.
  3. I have traveled to almost every state in the Union except for the Dakotas and Alaska.
  4. I was a dance major in college.
  5. My other two "children" are my dogs, Rowdy - a lab/pit bull mix (and he is scared of his shadow) and Boogie - a great dane mix.

Oh, good grief! John, we just met!

 1.  When I was five I had my left foot ran over by a riding lawn mower.  They had to reattach my big toe and my foot looks like a map of Los Angeles.

2.  I am just like Chandler on "Friends" and have a third nipple.  I know, TMI, but you asked.

3.  I am VERY shy.  If you saw my in Las Vegas at the Turning Point you may think otherwise but I can't tell you the preparation and buckets of sweat I went through getting the courage to go up to 300 people I don't know.  I just know I have to get out of my comfort zone to be successful.

4.  My husband and I eloped in Las Vegas ( I got married in Vegas, too, John).  We got married where Brittany Spears got married the first time but we have lasted a lot longer and I didn't wear jeans and hold a 40.  We only knew each other for 4 months but we knew.  He's my earthly guardian angel.

5.  I can't/don't swim even though I have a swimming pool in my back yard.

I have tagged Jared Hokanson, Brad Owensby and Jason Hall.

Thanks to Sandy Noll, I have been Meme'd.

I have Meme'd JR Sangiuliano, Donna Maxwell and I can't figure out who the third one was.  I am so sorry.

Here are my comments I made on my blog:

Okay, I have been MEMED!!!  Here are five things you might not know about me:

1. I love to scrapbook but I do more pages for other people than I do for myself.

2. I have been married for 21 years, okay tomorrow I will be.

3. I have one son who is old enough to drive but doesn't want to.  And, he has a teal and royal blue mohawk.

4. My youngest son is ADD and incredibly bright.  He read three novels in the last two days.

5. I have 1 sister, 1 brother, 1 half brother, 3 step sisters, and 1 ex step brother and 1 ex step sister.

6. I recently changed companies, from a mortgage broker to a mortgage banker.

Okay, that was six but they are really interesting.  LOL

1:45pm • #223

I was memed! LOL Thank you Karen Inch for dragging me back in to the Rain, I was home sick...LOL 5 things eh? OK...

1. I live in a cave, no seriously I do... there's a computer a printer and a desk and this chain on my ankle...lol or you could just say I'm a workaholic on the net.

2. I have 2 wonderful sons ages 10 and 19 who bring me out of my cave to life a full and exciting life away from work.

3. I have a huge family and extended family and it's one of the most important things about me, I'm all about family. I have 4 brothers and 4 sisters, some step and some half, one brother is from the original marriage of my parents, but I consider them all the same. We won't go into nephews, neices and cousins etc because I could be here all day on #3.

4.  When I used to have the free and single simple life before kids I used to live in a pool hall and sometimes dream I am shooting 9 ball and kicking someone's arse...LOL

5. If I came into a cashfall tomorrow I would buy everyone in my family a house and a car then go off traveling the world for awhile and come back when I get bored of it and take a few more classes, still do graphic work because I love the creative side and still hang out on the internet with my friends I have made.

Now...who should I meme back????? LOL Thanks Karen!

After much thought here it is:
  1. I want a tattoo but I'm chicken. I also cant decide what or where it would be.
  2. I love the taco bell dog. I wish they would bring him back.
  3. I secretly hate soccer, my 4 kids play competitively and on recreational and school teams. My gosh it's a sport with out a off season.
  4. I hate driving.
  5. I do mosaic artwork that is off the wall. I use all kinds of stuff in my work. Toys glass, found treasures that kind of stuff.
  6. I hold grudges for .... FOREVER. I should probably let stuff go but that's where the smashing for the sake of art comes in :)

Oh dear! I hope I do this right - I'm still learning, but have enjoyed reading others' "fives".

1. I'm a late bloomer:  didn't get married until age 37, got into real estate at age 48 and am still learning, learning, learning!

2. Married to a wonderful man for almost 12 years - he's my hero! He has 4 children from his previous marriage and they all came to live with us when they were teenagers. Yikes! Luckily, it was one at a time...

3. I am a cat person. I love all kinds of cats and talk to them in a funny voice. I can embarrass myself. I only have 2 cats now, but under the right circumstances, I could be one of those lonely old ladies with 43 cats...

4. I am also now a dog person as we have a mini dachsund puppy. She is 3 months old and she keeps me from working long hours (you know, potty time outside and all)...

5. Married to a wonderful man for almost 12 years - he's my hero!

OK, Teri Deane Meme'd me so here goes --

1. Actually born in Washington, DC and now live/work in the MD 'Burbs (not too many natives 'round here)

2. Worked as a contract marketing person to hi-tech companies like Intel and Apple prior to real estate and now just have a vague idea about what I'm doing with all this Web 2.0 stuff.

3.  I'm registered and I vote...ever since I was 18 (I'm 52 now)...and I'm a liberal Democrat (shhhh! Don't tell anyone.)

4.  I'm spending the big bucks to attend Jack Canfield's Breakthrough to Success in AZ (in August, for God's sake!) hoping that the seminar will be worth the money and teach me how to transform my life.

5. I'm a Realtor and while I enjoying talking to people I hate calling people.  Cold calls? Out of the question.  Even the F.O.R.D. type "let's keep in touch" calls with past clients. It's my big weakness.

I tagged Ginger Allen, Barbara Erskine, and Susan Hill.

Hi Jay and Francy, I got to this post via Lucky :) on how what to do if you get memed :).  So I booked marked your post and added you as an associate (not that you need anymore), for a couple of reasons.  I also work with my husband, actually he works on my team as the runner and fill in when a team member is out sick or vacation.  He is retired or so he though :).  I also owned a large C-21 office for 30 years, and left 2 years ago to form my own co., which is really just my team of 9, if you include Bill.  I also wanted to have you for referrals to the Phoenix AZ area...really impressed with your web site # S.  Hopefully we can get to know each other?  I'm fairly new to AR, about 6 months, but have done a lot in that time.  It's been fun learning new things, and this is damn right addictive.  Liz
