Earlier this year, the market date website Trulia.com dove into the battle of the sexes, to see who came out on top in the world of real estate – men or women?
The results are in, and the ladies win.
First, there are more women than men in real estate across the board. In every region across the United States, female REALTORS® dominate the real estate market. On the low end, there are 48% more female REALTORS® than males in South Dakota and Nebraska. At the high end, in Mississippi and Oklahoma, women out number the men by 74%. And it’s not just that there are more women out there. They’re also doing it smarter.
While male REALTORS® tend to list more homes, that doesn’t mean that they sell more homes, or make more money – for themselves or for their clients. In fact, this is where the women really shine.
Though female REALTORS® put fewer homes on the market, the ladies put their homes on the market for higher prices than the men. That means that these REALTORS® – and their clients – make more on every transaction. In West Virginia, homes listed by female REALTORS® were 63% more expensive than those listed by men!
Several factors could be driving the trend of higher-priced homes by female REALTORS®. Maybe it takes a more personal, involved approach to sell a higher-priced home. This approach is more suited for women than men. It could be that are men are more likely to take on selling homes in less safe neighborhoods. In these areas, prices will be lower. Men may be better at volume sales because of the analytical approach they bring to selling, and they adjust for lower commissions with a higher number of listings.
Whatever the case may be, when you stack them up side by side, women win.
Regardless of gender, the important thing is to find a good REALTOR®. Bob and Carly found theirs with Sundaybell; watch the video and see how they did it.
