Every once in a while you come across a person that is so obnoxious its hard to understand them. What is really sad is they probably do not know they are obnoxious and maintain no social skills. I find this especially true when this person was a neighbor for 6 years.
I recieved a call from a past neighbor this weekend. Now just to clarify, this lady has had me "rental analyze" her home twice already and every few months she likes to call and let me know that her transfer is in progress.(for the last six years that is). Government works slow and I am sure for what she does spending money on a transfer probably is a bad government fiscal decision since there is little skills needed and just a clearance.
Ok, so this call goes like this. - Joe, how are you? I am going to be getting that transfer we spoke about last time. (Ok, I am thinking which time and this has gone on for six years).
Joe, I would like to see if you have time this weekend before I go out of the country on Sunday to look at my house and let me know what I need to do to rent it? (Ok, this would be the THIRD time she wants me to look at her house.) (Let it be known these are in Vintage Place, Reston which is basically a third rate townhome in a prime location renting at around $2200 per month. Yes, I own one and paying dearly for it so yes, third rate is a complement and prime location is true.)
So I ask her when do you think you will get your transfer?
"I think Probably April, May or June. "(Ok, quack what I mean Joe I dont have a clue...) I love my ex neighbors even more since I moved away since I have less people asking how the market is and then finding out they are asking their sister in law to sell their sell house:)
She then really went at it and caught me off guard.
Joe, I would like you here on Saturday to "compete" for my business! (OK, Quack, Quack, Quack!) I am now thinking what the heck did she think I have been doing for SIX YEARS!!
She then blurts out that she will have at least 3 other Realtors/Property Managers come by and do a "reverse auction". I SAID WHAT!
Yes, Joe you have been a good neighbor and I would like you to compete for my business! (QUACK, 40 times:).
Summation- (She is actually expecting to get three property managers in her house at 10am Saturday to compete at the same time for her business) I had to ask what she meant by "Reverse Auction" cause it sounded screwed up. I been around a while and to be quite honest with you I was floored when she told me we would start out high and the winner would be agreed to the lowest fees there Saturday!!!).
Honestly, I would love to see it but I doubt anyone worth their salt would even tolerate that.
Yes, I am still in shock. We are talking about rental listing and Property Management, not exactly a business worth fighting to hard for. Ok, she is obviously a lonely person with a dead end job wanting to be in control. For lonely people Realtors make great targets.
Honestly, I could not believe my ears!
My decision has been made.. I will be calling her with a name and phone number of a competitor she can call because I have other plans Saturday LOL:)
